Oh, I couldn't even begin to think of those horrible numbers. I just had to stick with the npp info. My daughter is pregnant and lives in Ca.
Hard to be on the web when there are so many end of the world stories out there. Gotta stay focused.... |

I don't know about Nebraska's law on car wash drainage, but the Ca laws require the car washes to capture and treat waste-water. Waste Oil from auto maintanence is stored in sealable containers. I go with gas from the gas station as most likely to create a film/slick in the flood water.
I don't have tv so I will be off to find news, drag myself out of a week in the dark ages. Thanks to everyone who posted, good, bad and indifferent. |

Little news reaches here how the floods that raged through the USA ended [did they?], but did stumble on this news piece of the Kansas City Star, discussing the 2 Missouri NPs and reporting on a watch dog body watching the watch dog body:

The river has to still be high, but it's probably crested now that we aren't getting as much rain. There's a dam in I think south dakota, that the Army Corps of Engineeers has said will need to release an increased amount of water until September. Edit: The Army Corps of Engineers has a flood response page here: http://www.nwo.usace.army.mil/html/op-e/flood2011/citizenresources.html It's got lots of information on it. Checking the news releases, there hasn't been a levee breach since June 30th. [Edit 2 times, last edit by AnnieKenes at Jul 14, 2011 11:44:13 AM] |

Thanks for the pdf link, bookmarked... great stuff. Forecasters are not predicting improvement in the coming years for reasons well discussed ;D --//-- This year has been far far outside what is considered normal, exceeding even the 1993 records. So, even accounting for said forecasted increase in the norm, next year should be better. That said however, I have to wonder what they will do to increase our capacity for flood control, since we came so close to exceeding it this year. I suppose you could argue we did exceed it, considering the number of broken levees, but I'm specifically referring to the water held back by the various dams. |

Good info Annie, I wonder if this will change the accepted levels at the repective dams? If they start releasing water earlier, before the snow pack melt...
It may too simple an answer. |
