Re: Doing Good, but Nuclear is Undoing it in The USA

Agree with Brinktastee
Whooo wouldn't take that as a reliable source for telling the correct time, it seems to have a distinct bias .

@ fur and feathers you wrote

I have disconnected my projects because it's too hard to solve problems without being treated like a nusaince or an idiot.

You started a thread asking what people thought about what seemed to be a dodgy situation. You got replies some a bit flippant dont throw your toys outta the pram just ignore them and please reconnect your projects

Re: Doing Good, but Nuclear is Undoing it in The USA

Sigh . . .
When I looked in earlier, I thought about posting some cautions in this thread, but finally decided to let it develop some more. I hope every reader realizes that nuclear power is a high blood-pressure topic. On each side of the question, slanted and unfair opinions have been promulgated for decades. FurAndFeathers began by linking to news reports. He did make his personal opinion clear, but that should not be cause for any sniping. It took a while before any heated posts were made, but things seemed to escalate to the verge of 'ad hominem' attacks against him. This may be a failure on my part. I really dislike trying to interfere with threads, particularly when they start out with a very mature tone.

This was not a good day on the board.

Re: Doing Good, but Nuclear is Undoing it in The USA

My computer was being hacked and I did everything that I could to get safe. Since then I have not jumped back on. I'm not sure where it came from but I have a good idea and it wasn't WCG. I'll hook back up but have to get my system profile correct with BOINC so it knows I'm even smaller than it thinks.
By the way, I'm not a boy, just a pissed off girl.

Re: Doing Good, but Nuclear is Undoing it in The USA

I didn't disconnect because of snippy comments, I just found there are other ways to solve the computer problem I was having that did not involve being made to feel like an idiot because I'm new to computers. Like a few months new, so I do understand it can be frustrating to have to answer tiny baby questions. So, I found another site.
It doesn't mean that I have quit it just means that I'm not real quick to get these things done.

The Pram comment was unneccessary.
I came here to bring an update and that is what I'll do.
If you are not interested please do not continue on this thread.

Re: Doing Good, but Nuclear is Undoing it in The USA

Well, I am really disappointed in the responses that I have recieved here. I stay because of the respectful and calming voices that did show up.
I am a member of two orgs that are mainly made up of people who are at home and communicate through their computers. There are over 2500 people in these two orgs and I have a post up asking that they support WCG. I told them that I would come here to see what else I could find off shore. There are many people who are, for various reasons, homebound. When there is an emergency such as this it is especially terrifiing for those who are unable to help themselves. This is what I do, I help people. It is scary to have a black out on nuclear issues when it is in your back yard.
I recieved an email today from the IAEA and checked the follow up with the US NRC. I also recieved this link from ProPublica.org to another public service Journal.
The above you can check on easily so I post only one. The sources are gradually becoming more reputable and we are feeling more and more secure with the info we recieve.

I hope you all continue to have a good weekend.

Your link above ^^^^ is a good one.
Lack of constructive in context information is what is lacking in this case. The right questions do not seem to have been asked by reporters, hinging around loss of grid supplies this is not the worry it should focus on the Nuclear integrity of the plants Aqua damms looks like clutching at straws

This forum will throw up varied replies some folks might not agree with your opinions .As you didn't state you had problems other than the forum events It did appear that you had done the pram toys thing Sorry if I read it wrong I didn't intend to offend

The fact that You are a Girl has no bearing on the matter and did not affect my posts. In fact some of my best friends are Girls.

Keep up the good work dont be disappointed at the replies just sort the wheat from the chaff and keep crunching

Re: Doing Good, but Nuclear is Undoing it in The USA

Pardon me for going off a bit here, but this feels like either fear mongering, or trolling at it's best.

There are far far more pressing concerns regarding the flooding along the Missouri River than the nuclear plant. Overwhelmed and leaking levies protecting homes, and the people already flooded out for example.

100% agree. Just more anti nuke hysteria after what happened in Japan.

What about some coal mining hysteria? More are killed mining the stuff. (48 in the U.S. in 2010) According to the Chinese government 2,632 coal miners (seven miners a day) were killed in 2009 and many more deaths from up to 23,000 small mines go unreported. The fly ash left over from power plants has some radioactivity in it from concentrated heavy metal byproducts.

It is estimated that coal mine fires in China burn about 200 million tons of coal each year. Dutch scientists scribbling back-of-the-envelope calculations say that coal fires in China may still be the cause of 2 to 3 percent of the world's annual emissions of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels.

At the Rujigou coalfield in the Ningxia Autonomous Region of western China, fires have burned since the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Legend has it that coal miners who were angry over not being paid started a coal fire more than a century ago.
