Lunar Eclipse 2011

We are very fortunate in South Africa to have a great view of the Lunar Eclipse 2011.

Due to the popularity of this You tube Channel, you may need to hit refresh to get it to show properly.

Edit - here's another site:

Re: Lunar Eclipse 2011

We had/have an absolute clean steel blue sky all day. The telescope is aligned and tracking for it to show low off the horizon in a little. Read only North America will not be seeing the [longest] show for many a year. Colored extra by sulphates injected by a couple of active vulcanos (Chile+Somalia). Don't think the Islandic one is contributing anything of substance, being so far North.

Enjoy

Re: Lunar Eclipse 2011

Never seen it like this... with bare eye a faint reddish rim and a cloud like appearance over the centre, whilst the stars, and a planet [highup Saturn maybe] is showing bright.... truly clear sky.

Re: Lunar Eclipse 2011

Last night the moon was as reddish as the eclipse day, except no cloudsiness in on the main body. Pretty amazing how long it took.

Taking the latter part of the eclipse showed a sharp shade, it could be calculated what the diameter differential is between the 2 bodies. From there on a few more calcs are possible.

Strangely, where it was full moon yesterday, the stray dogs were eerily silent on the hill and something there was with moon-dogs... no showing here :D
