Opening post, linked article of [xxxxx] origin, last paragraph:
But, with an already documented 35% increase in the infant mortality rate for American mothers living in the western coastal regions of the US caused by radiation blowing onto them from Japan being ignored by these people there doesn’t seem to be much hope for them. Someone went out to address this spreading slick and pulled the numbers and concluded: There was a slight [statistical] decrease: http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2011/06/are-b...in-pacific-northwest.html The truth is out there, somewhere. Now, FurAndFeathers, seeing you have not returned a result since May 11 following a 5 minute ago check, plz plug your computer back in and crunch. Every little bit helps. cheers --//-- |

A picture of a fuel station dated today, dammed. Seems there's seepage into the station and looking at the pattern of passing water, either the station is leaking hydrocarbons from underground tanks, or the sand of the dam itself is contaminated.

That's a garage, towards the top right hand corner. The oil is coming from there; most garages are quite dirty, with lots of grease and oil about. You can see some of the tires floating away from the pile at the rear. From the fuel station I just see brown dirt from the sand. Fuel tanks don't leak that easily, they are made of thick solid metal designed to withstand so called natural disasters. So the finger gets pointed at the grease monkeys this time.

Probably better to have zoomed in first before giving my observations. There's seemingly a tube of maybe a pumping contraption coming out of the garage door, layed over the dam. Would there be an oil-pit there
? Anyway, floodings are an environmental disaster, one way or the other. --//-- |

Full-Service gas stations (the type where you can get your car worked on) are a rarity these days, even without a garage next door like there is here. Also, the fuel tanks for a station like this are buried underground. There's also some sort of inspection requirement that goes along with that. They used to have to dig them up to look at them, but I don't think they have to do that anymore. I don't know the details, but they're probably available online somewhere. Here's hoping that dam holds. I doubt Conoco would go to such lengths, so that place is probably locally owned & operated. [Edit 1 times, last edit by AnnieKenes at Jun 26, 2011 1:23:13 AM] |

Bottom line is that's not a 5,000 or 10,000 gallon fuel leak, nor is it going to be.
"Would there be an oil-pit there?" Yes, probably and that could explain all the oil at once; most average sized garages have an oil pit, this is required for some MOT cleaning - it's a must really. |

I haven't fully caught up with the posts, been icky all week. It seems like everytime the water is going to exceed safe levels a levie upriver fails and an area is decimated. Timing is interesting.
Today the water-filled barrier that is the sandbag replacement was punctured by a piece of equipment and two rooms are effected, basicly the device holding back the water no longer holds water. http://www.ketv.com/missouri-river-flooding-e...rage/28362890/detail.html The cruncher from Omaha, yeah there is coverage now, but we called and asked the local abc affiliate and they just said the guys out. The coverage and the NRC oversight is very good now. It should always be this good. When there is even a threat there should be constant monitoring, and public awareness. We are the ones who will live with the consequenses. Or, Omaha, in this case You, and a couple of friends of mine. So, even though my cheezy computer will not handle the current Clean Energy projects, I'll fold Protoenes so the rest of you can concentrate on the global energy needs. |

Like the link. Thanks for posting. I was not aware of them and I'm not sure of the timing, but it is a non-issue at this point.

Check your dates, and read the thread. They did not have that coverage at the time I started searching for coverage. I called them before I posted here.
Also, you may want to see this mornings report from them. Stay safe, Fur |
