Re: Linux Only Beta Test

Not necessarily. WCG has logic in place to do a double act if low and high outliers meet... here likely a 32 bit and 64 bit client meeting and those are standard over-claiming on 32bit sciences.

Different tangent, seems with this constant stream of CEP2 beta tasks it's hard to get above 2200-2300 validated results daily suggesting a capacity constraint on the Linux platform, so uplinger's weekend is getting rather long... no wonder he's holding on to that second lot. Just need 3 more of them to hit gold, adding in the PV jailed.

On the operating side, still not noticing any user impairment after 40 having crunched on the quad. Forgot where to see soft-page errors in Linux... think Didactylos once mentioned which terminal command it was, maybe with TOP -?

edit: something or other per http://linux.die.net/man/1/top

Since this run started, I have been averaging 6-7 cores out of 11 available doing consistent beta work using a HCC/Beta only profile with a 0.2 day cache. If all my 11 Linux cores were kept fed with beta it would help a little plus if I have this issue, others likely have it as well. I tried using a beta only profile with a 0.2 day cache but I got a lot of "no work available" messages and cores starving for work implying that the lower Linux throughput may be a WU feeder issue, not enough betas to feed all the hungry mouths smile

Edit: added correct quote to clarify response. Maybe I'll get this right now.

Re: Linux Only Beta Test

Possibly the CEP2 upload issue that has been observed has also something to do with the less than robust client comms parts [6.10.17]. If I disable work fetch just prior to the "monster" CEP2 Beta result completions the uploads fly through in 15 minutes [biggest now seen 72MB]. If the client keeps nagging for work that ain't there because the profile is set to DDDT2+BETA [WCG serves up 700,000 results daily now], I see frequent resumes as far as 100% back to 21-23% progress turning the uploads into taking 120MB and that takes time, stopping BETA work allocation anyhow in the 1:1. The Ready to Report requires clearance first!

Re: Linux Only Beta Test

Just had one BETA_ A.23.C20H14N2S.4.4_ 1-- that against trend stopped during job # 12 after 4 hour with:

Application exited with RC = 0x100

Sits there with a normal Pending Validation waiting on wingman.

Maybe one where the iteration concluded it was not worth continuing on / nothing more valuable to acquire?

Re: Linux Only Beta Test

These uploads are killer. My machine is averaging over an hour to upload one file. I'm bringing another one online and will install the 10.56 client to see if it helps some.

Well, there was an upload-bug in v6.10.17, fixed in v6.10.3x, but if not mis-remembers this only happened if you manually (or by preference) stopped network, not if connection errored-out or timed-out on it's own...

Still, upgrading to a later client will most likely not solve your problem, since WCG has intentionally disabled all download-resuming, and AFAIK has also disabled upload-resuming...

So, chances are upload-resuming will only work if WCG sets-up a separate server only to handle CEP2-uploads, and can therefore use different server-settings to the other servers. Or, if WCG re-configures their existing servers...

BTW, if all CEP2-wu's has similar uploads, and if CEP2 will get a "normal" share of the WCG-resources, chances are extra upload-servers is needed anyway to handle the load...

Wingman came in with exact same log line on job # 12, both validating, so it will be something we learn later as to what it means... benign I hope.

Re: Linux Only Beta Test

What are the system requirements for these BETA's other then Linux? Is it still the same as CEP1

I had 1 linux machine that could not do the beta's, I did not have enough memory, the message said I needed 750 MB of memory and that was for 1 beta

ok
go to:
advanced->preferences->use of disk and memory
increase the amount of Gb on disk allowed to boinc , increase the percent of memory to allocate to boinc client and all , hopeful , will go the right way

Re: Linux Only Beta Test

The 750mb is for RAM, I had this issue with another of my systems not being able to handle these work units.
