Last reply 2015, way way before badges could even be hidden. So what made you to dig this dead subject out? Just what I said... I noticed those against have no, few, or hidden badges! Since we are looking at this today, no or hidden badges looks the same!!! But the year 2015 posts are hidden today just like the rest! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by BladeD at Apr 11, 2019 9:19:25 PM] |

Looking at the first and last pages of this topic...I noticed those against have no, few, or hidden badges! Everybody got it's own opinion about the badges. & that's OK. But my number are, that I recruited 71 people to WCG. Of those: - 18 are crunching - 53 are not Maybe some percentage of those 53 people would stay active on WCG, if the got transparent (or wooden) badge after 1 WU. Just maybe. |

Here my idea which I posted on CEP2. ----------------------------------------------------- I've just passed four years worth of computing time for CEP2. I've been thinking why not use the elements in the periodic table as markers for how many years of CPU time you've done per Boinc/WCG project. One year for Hydrogen, two for Helium, three for ...... etc, etc. So right now I'm at four years for a Beryllium badge. With certain crunchers approaching 20+ years of computing time and no recognition for it I think the current system of badges is so super outdated it needs to go the way of the dodo. Oh and the new system might use a base of 118. I'm not good with numbers but you know what I mean. So CEP2s awesome 25,000 years cpu time would have a points badge of ~211, give or take a few digits;-). What say you guys and girls? ---------------------------------------------- Just found this thread so will go back and read up. But what I posted here is what I thought of before I knew about this threads existence. Some of those elements near Oganesson only had 3 atoms that lasted a few microseconds and that one only had 5 or 6, but that counts as a whole element if another group can also create a few atoms. It took 14 years after synthesis to even prove it enough to name it. I had one project with only one unit for a test. I had some computer problems and the project ended before I could get back to it. It's my own fault. As for 14 days for a badge, it would depend on the project. I have 133 days of beta after nearly 14 years, but 14 days of beta can actually be difficult. I'm only getting 9+ days per year on the average, so it took at least 10 years to get a gold beta. Computing for Sustainable Water was very hard to get 14 days worth. Help Stop TB is a bit difficult this time. There aren't many workunits, so 14 days is a real effort. Some projects are easy. Just fill up the queue and go. A year of work goes by fast, especially if you are attacking it with multiple cores.
