Do you think there is a need for more than sapphire badge of the projects? those 2years of computer time seems less & less...as the motherboards become more & more with dual-CPU, quad-CPUs...as the CPUs become more & more dual-cores, quad-cores, six-cores, eight-cores...as the GPU become dual-core / dual-CPUs...
----------------------------------------So in the same amount of time, all of us are able to compute more than 1WU! Even my example is not much, but on FightAIDS project right now is 7years of CPU time listed...of the current projects only MCM project is without sapphire badge... maybe there it's time to think about more than 2years of CPU time for some project? here is current standing: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSearch.do?searchString=badge here is my sugestion: Bronze - 14 days Silver - 45 days Gold - 90 days Platinum - 180 days Pearl - 1 year Ruby - 2 years Emerald - 5 years Sapphire - 10 years Diamond - 20 years From my point of view - that would speed up the expansion of the WCG & begin another "race for the badges"! What do you think? ;) ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Apr 17, 2014 10:08:24 AM] |

Here my idea which I posted on CEP2.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've just passed four years worth of computing time for CEP2. I've been thinking why not use the elements in the periodic table as markers for how many years of CPU time you've done per Boinc/WCG project. One year for Hydrogen, two for Helium, three for ...... etc, etc. So right now I'm at four years for a Beryllium badge. With certain crunchers approaching 20+ years of computing time and no recognition for it I think the current system of badges is so super outdated it needs to go the way of the dodo. Oh and the new system might use a base of 118. I'm not good with numbers but you know what I mean. So CEP2s awesome 25,000 years cpu time would have a points badge of ~211, give or take a few digits;-). What say you guys and girls? ---------------------------------------------- Just found this thread so will go back and read up. But what I posted here is what I thought of before I knew about this threads existence. |

Thanks for the comments on new badge levels - we're thinking about expanding those beyond the current levels. No anticipated release date yet - we're early in the design phase for this enhancement.

Interesting, moreover because digging through, discussions of years ago imply some levels and design was already done. Which latches onto the certificates that boinc world has had as standard for a very long time. Someone posted a seti@home sample on one of wcg's social network pages just in the last week. It was said then too these were scaled to at least one level above the biggest individual contributor, the kermit man probably being referred to. Interestingly, in both cases it seems your former senior architect was intimately involved. He let on for several years to have been thinking about a career change in his farewell. Insurmountable internal obstacles as a possible reason, but this happening shortly after "I gave 10 years of my life to wcg", words of that extend, could make one lead up the speculation trail. Anyway, the wording "we're early in the design phase for this enhancement." is as always open and not committal. Rubbished in the past, history almost always repeats. Only marginally interested, so others may have a go the "twylith's sagas" compositional style.

Thanks for the comment... it is something that is considered important to the crunching community and has been requested for a long time. Thanks... CJSL Crunching for a better world... |

Only took just over four years for an admin response. Still, can't say I'm not pleased with the hint of hope.

Adding 1-2 additional badges should be something really simple.. OK, the biggest effort is to paint all existing project's badges with 1-2 new colors... So I'm wondering about the complexity of the design progress ;-)

Colours should be easy, keep existing as they are and go for bright florescent for 5, 10, 50, 100 years
