“It’s the nonskeptics who look bad. It’s not science to be a true believer who wants to ignore new evidence. It’s not science to support a man who has the job of being a scientist but doesn’t adhere to the methods of science.”
- Ann Althouse on skepticism. Did you know? This year all 48 contiguous States in the US had snow cover? If we add Alaska 49/50 states have had Snow cover this year. |

Cost benefit analyses for environmental action?
How much economic damage is a particular form of deteriorated environment worth? A little snow and ice melts, not a big deal. A city has to relocate permanently, is significant. When will this happen? What will the future bring? How do we hedge? Is consumption today worth more than a climate with a few ppm less CO2 in the future? Oh the agony of decision. |

Morning CLST
----------------------------------------If we move towards an attitude of care in how we use the resources, which are bountiful, of this little Planet of ours then there's nothing more we can do. We should try to use renewables such as Solar, Wind, Wave, River, Hydroelectric, Geothermal, we have even encountered osmotic pressure as a power source being trialled in Norway where a a river meets the more salty sea along our travels through this subject. We should do this wherever it is viable, practical and possible to do instead of burning fossil fuels - that's just common sense. But as for Mankind being able to prevent a future inundation of a city from rising sea levels well just ask King Canute about that especially as, if this story is to believed, our weapon of choice for this global battle is to reduce the atmospheric concentration of CO2 from 0.0388% back to it's claimed pre-industrial level of 0.0280% while always remembering that this completely non-toxic trace gas is responsible for all the food and consequently life on this wonderful blue marble we live on taking not a small part in Photosynthesis. (Apart from the life supported by the those ocean vents along the mid-ocean rifts - just one of the means by which our planet to continues to change daily without any intervention) CLST this is just a huge scare story with friends in high places. See it for what it is and rest easy at night. The World we live in has always changed it's only Man that thinks everything should remain just as it is laid out today. Our Globe is not static which is why the dynamic nature of our World, our Star, the Planets and the Universe are just so darn interesting. The kind of dynamic world that means that's yet another 24 Hours it's been sub zero Apart from ~3 days mid Jan that's 2 Months permanent snow cover...in Brussels.http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/EBBR.html I'm sick of the snow aren't you? Seeing a post at 4:25:28 AM by an ain't true-ist in the UK, they must be worried... it's so very hard to admit it:
----------------------------------------![]() It's NOT a conspiracy, snow melting in the southern states as fast as it fell... and here it has not fallen since Dec.16, 2008, where it should have and used to do every single winter. Foggy and 8C at 07:30AM... kind of none conducing to forming ice crystals. Meantime, the inuit can't eat ice bear meat. Too many toxins and heavy metals in there... can only mean the Arctic is severely polluted too. Yes We Can, Yes We Did, Yes We Do!

And whilst all that snow is made from all that extra vapor made on those record warm oceans, the Arctic is not having, what shall we say, a recovery year:
----------------------------------------![]() More than 2 STD deviation below a 28 year mean, and quality rotten as per in-situ reports from the locals... eskimo's [who might be in the conspiracy too]

Nope Sek what I said was
----------------------------------------"Assuming no whitewash - which should be more difficult in this information age (Thanks to Al's Internet ) - the consensus and the "settled science" will hopefully return to a truthful expression of the level of uncertainty there is in the understanding of our chaotic climate processes and the hyperbole and fearmongering visited upon us all should quickly come to an end." Just let's get a reasonable perspective, let's progress to a less damaging future (CO2 really is the least of our worries) and let's drop the "we are all doomed" nonsense. There's a great deal wrong with our World but there's little wrong with our Climate. Drought comes, Drought goes, Floods come, Floods go, Hurricanes arrive, Hurricanes leave Let's have a bit of peace in the eye of this vicious vicious storm And then how about a little truth about how and why we got here and some honesty about what we can achieve to reduce the real problems affecting our World. That might just make this all worthwhile Phew thank heaven's positive numbered temperatures today in Brussels!!! I was beginning to have my doubts Sek the Ice Cap is fine wait until Summer there will be more again than last year just wait and see. Dave ![]() |

He heard it through the grapevine, yes there are Freemasons members amongst the eskimos
----------------------------------------![]() Maxwell then upgraded and connected to skeptical science and was promptly served the 10 most frequently used talking points: ![]() All were addressed, binned by the can't hear it and all 10 points recycled again. The word of the day is tau... tau... tautology.

Ah, science we read hear is not what it used to be, particular if Viscount Lord Monckton starts talking about it:
----------------------------------------Fabricated quote used to discredit climate scientist http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/clim...te-scientist-1894552.html Sir John Houghton explains to Steve Connor how global warming sceptics have misrepresented his views A picture of the good lord: ![]()

I do try not to let despair get the better of me - but there are some days in life when it is one heck of a challenge.
----------------------------------------My God you need a sense of humour some days to even bother trying to get out of bed. Thank you for mine. Dave ![]() |
