Note to trigger further controversy:
The average human being generates 17.6 BTU of heat per hour and there are about 7 billion generators going 24/7/365!
(Of course, as outliers you have Politicians which generate orders of magnitude more "hot air". )

You mean like ol Alibi?

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

This is true Sek

But the thing is it has always been like that and unfortunate as it seems the climate there is absolutely normal

I seem to remember Sir Bob back in 1986 swearing at us to give him our money

Then there was 1972-73

1958

1888-1892

1567-1570

1535

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famines_in_Ethiopia

Unfortunately normal sad

Night folks

Sleep well

Wake up, time for some reality check, inconvenient no doubt.

Not going to give geography lessons, call Tim Ball on that, what the east side of Africa is, but it's from Ethiopia down to The Horn and Worst Drought in 60 Years , and had you bothered to read a little further in the news [you don't as evidenced], warnings given in 2009 such as in The Independent, you'd know and not trot out the usual ''It's Normal'' lullaby story on one country.

Meantime the ol and tired Gore meme is being reeled out, what fun, and both polar regions are falling to new records

http://www.iup.uni-bremen.de:8084/amsr/ice_ext_s.png

And the southern US http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html is looking real good, does it?

For the world of "Maybe looking out the window should be enough" more occupied with the Nuke fear mongering whilst there are anno 2011 a billion hungering... now there's a yawn... ''all normal'' in the mind of us haves.

PS, I'm sure you'll be able to find some contrived uncorroborated ''kitchen sink'' science that ''proofs'' there's a 60 year cycle too somewhere hidden in ''comfort'' science to explain it away ... visit wottsupwiththat for a view an a limited view.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Now so much for a change of topic... lets discuss that 2010 El Nino year of yours somewhat more... was it (?) that led to a global heat record. NOT according to the below linked charts [either], showing a fully fletched La Nina running in June 2010, no El Nino in site [and Roger, yes another Roger, Pielke chirping all heat escaped to space in a matter of a month]. Just browse through their archive, the first column showing the current month actual used to predict the going forward for 12 months:

http://iri.columbia.edu/climate/ENSO/currentinfo/archive/201005/figure3.html

Can you see the flip state in May?

http://iri.columbia.edu/climate/ENSO/currentinfo/archive/201006/figure3.html

Starting to see where it's going?

http://iri.columbia.edu/climate/ENSO/currentinfo/archive/201007/figure3.html

Seeing where it's gone?

Really Roger David, you could with a little bit of effort find if something is fact or comforting fiction.

--//--

PS, this is how Global Sea Ice looks today, the "get your binoculars out" favored ribbon:

And then when one takes the data and finds the trend:

Can you see that white line continue through at the end going below and previous year but 2007?

And when one takes the same original data again and puts it in, JAXA style, but with 24 years more history...

Can you then see it, how much deviation from "it's normal"?

There's a cycle shift too [things have moved a month+ forward [earlier]" though earth still rotates it's normal on that 100,000 year Milankovic cycle [not the first time mentioned here] that's underlying ice ages there've been. No ice age tomorrow or in the next 20 or 50 thousand years... because we've changed something at Anthropocene scale.

For the closer observant, last year I've labeled to call on Kevin Trenberth's exclaim "It's a Travesty, Record Heat Year''. He / We know now what that stolen and quote-mined email comment meant... the climate signal is just hiding in the noise called weather.

--//--

PS, please read all and beyond the surface before launching another knee jerk ''2010 was an El Nino year''. No need to admit anything to me, because it's just a fraction of what is still outstanding on that front, of Inconvenient Truth, the ones that do matter to the one planet we live on and can't escape.

PPS: The chart value of July 9, Negative -2,209,000 km square [red line] dropped further to -2,310,000 km square [will self update tonight]. Just a fraction of Earth's 510 million km^2 surface, but then when was it last we came out into the now previous epoch called Holocene, that ended circa 200 years ago?

No, I don't read Canada Free Press... it hurts the brain, but did read this Bachmann's rejoice that rising unemployment will help her campaign ... the Denial Side of society, some serious scary people there aspiring to come to power, and these telling Global Warming aint true.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

A nice animation off from North Pole webcam NOAA2, dates of shots left-top from July 4 to 12.
... it's drifted a bit away to 88N less than 2 degrees from 90 north. http://psc.apl.washington.edu/northpole/DriftTrackMap.html

The black/white marker poles were dug/hacked in, back in April, so they could measure how much melts off the top off the ice/snow. Each White and Black section is each 10 Centimeters... 4 inches and remember, this is near the very North Pole.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

That's exactly the issue with climate change deniers... "in amongst the noise" ... ''they'', the 3rd person in the thread title can't seems to be able to identify the important bits. Care to tell the farming community what cultivars to grow, which we eat as staple food and do well on 394 ppmv CO2 and rising? Nutritional value of wheat has dropped because of what we're adding to the atmosphere. New studies show that other important plant species are also starting to choke on more CO2... imbalance such as disruption of uptake of nitrates.

So, nuclear power plant is diverting noise... the new builds are saver than ever and would pebble bed technology be adopted, you'd not even need humans to regulate... fully passive cooling.

Yes Yes we know... IF ... but then if you get in the commuter train, would you trust there not to come one on the same track from the opposite direction barreling down at you?

--//--

PS, Solar, Wind, Tidal is just a drop in the bucket, but nothing wrong with developing that, whilst 2010 saw the CO2 output rise by 5% over the previous, pre-recession record level. Americans complaining about 4 USD per gallon... well in the market place, there are new players now... no exclusivity rights and some going nuts over the Shale gas Ponzi pyramid [in Forbes, who'd thought]. We're overdue to ween ourselves of the fossil fuel addiction, fast and no alternatives for decades to come to fill our cravings for more energy.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Wheat production figures 1996 to 2009

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_wheat_production_statistics

The trend is positive

CO2 is food to plants

There is no way that more CO2 isn't anything but good news for plant yields

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2qVNK6zFgE

Watch the above

Now if you believe like me in an intelligent DNA designer or you believe in pure luck and animals and plants reach an optimum design over time either way what does the above video say about the current level of CO2?
