What use to be work/life balance (balancing your work life and your personal life) is gone and is now work/life integration (how you manage being available to work as needed for at least 50-60 hours per week 24x7x365 for less pay). Agreed. Been there, still do it, but soon will pass the torch to someone younger. ![]() Cheers These days, that someone younger will also get paid only one-third to half what you do as well. Just passing the torch is harder. True--but you gotta do what you gotta do...be thankful for what you have and take advantage of what you can--i don't mean that in a bad way. Stay informed and try to save in every area and look out for the children.I was lucky enough to REALLY love my work and that's more than half of your life.I am afraid hard times are coming and i hope i am wrong |

When the situation reversed, i.e. cheap computers and expensive people, IT became the white-collar sweatshop that it is today. If conditions were the same when I started as they are today, I would almost certainly be doing something else. On the other hand, there would be no grid community if computers were still expensive. - D |

If you have any experience in programming or just using markup languages then web page design, HTML, PHP, etc, should be fairly easy to pick up. Or, you could discover that you just have a knack for it even if you have no applicable experience. Go for it. What's the worst that can happen? - D |

I don't know why people pack up their marbles and leave in the darkness of night without reason or explanation. OK, here goes: 1) MOT is a WCG team and only rewards those efforts. 2) MOT needs a private forum like other major teams. 3) Crunching non-WCG projects is not a sin. 4) I am a “closet” Aussie. ![]() No hard feelings. Be well and do well MOT. Thanks for the memories. Aye, Aye ![]() ![]() I'm sad to see you go, DM. I'm hanging with MOT - lots of good people here. You and I have openly discussed joining other crunching efforts and I don't feel bad about using a WCG forum to do that as I still had resources crunching in WCG. With multiple computers, and multiple cores there is nothing wrong with "sleeping around". I don't understand why you left, but I wish you would come back.

It's been fun guys; I'm quitting the team to join my local Chicago-IL-USA team. I may come back around. Happy crunching!

Well, it's just the lemming effect, herd instinct, whatever you want to call it that has me bummed. I can't help but hate to see folks leave. The fact that there's no real, effective way to communicate with the whole team here at WCG, you can't help but feel a bit hog-tied. Esoteric said when he joined that is was for a while. It's now been a while. It is time to get un-hog-tied though.....
