I don't know why people pack up their marbles and leave in the darkness of night without reason or explanation. OK, here goes: 1) MOT is a WCG team and only rewards those efforts. 2) MOT needs a private forum like other major teams. 3) Crunching non-WCG projects is not a sin. 4) I am a “closet” Aussie. ![]() No hard feelings. Be well and do well MOT. Thanks for the memories. Aye, Aye ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Jonathan, thanks for sticking with us here at WCG. I have to admit I was a bit caught by surprise. I can understand though. You, Blizzie and DM learned an awful lot about GPU computing the hard way. It is clearly something that is important and exciting to you. It's tiring to want to enjoy seeing something grow when you have to do so much of the work to grow it. Being part of a GPU focused team has got to be appealing, especially for learning more an easier way too! You're quite welcome to share your even greater knowledge of GPU stuff here too. This team has always been about diversity and that includes tolerance in order to be successful. I know that DM has a hard time staying put anywhere. I swear he must have some Aussie in his blood. He's gone on "walkabouts" before and that's just the way he is. Nothing wrong with it at all.
----------------------------------------As for meowpao's comment, yes, I agree we'd benefit from having our own forum(s). It's a bit tricky in the sense that you have to be able to support both as a team. Folks that go looking through threads here in the Teams Forum at WCG are typically going to be drawn to the threads that are active and interesting. Likewise, you want to have some decent activity in any separate team forums with enough folks on the team involved so that the folks that are active in them are enough to avoid those that are from getting burned out posting so much. I think we're probably borderline on being able to support this thread and our own forums. It's a fairly limited set of folks posting here now. Still, at some point you just have to bite the bullet and do it or forget about it. I've started tapping into RT's expertise and discussing some thoughts with him. I've had quite a backlog of things to do in a number of areas that I'm trying to catch up on. Then again, you don't make career changes lightly either. You need to do your research. I know I'm reluctant to stay in IT. It's gotten so competitive that companies are downright mercenary. What use to be work/life balance (balancing your work life and your personal life) is gone and is now work/life integration (how you manage being available to work as needed for at least 50-60 hours per week 24x7x365 for less pay). It's nothing unique to any one company like IBM either. It's industry-wide. EDIT: Figures that DM would post same time as me. See, he IS part Aussie after all!! ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by keithhenry at Jul 31, 2009 1:53:59 AM] |

It's sometimes hard to sort through all the info / posts in only one thread lol! Well that's just me. :) Yes, so true. Using separate topics in the posts can be a big help with that but, unless folks are real good about using the right topic for the post, it can get even MORE confusing very quickly. We've tended to just quote a post instead. |

Just passing the torch is harder. |
