Looks like I popped 2 gold badges in one day.. lol.. will make up for the fact we lost power for awhile earlier today.. so a good solid 6 hours or so before I could restart my computers.. ![]() On a happier note, the child who had a seizure in the waiting room was much better after some Tylenol.. ![]() It's all relative after something like that.. Jonathan, DM, please come back.. and soon.. :) Dr. Mike.. Indeed, maintaing a perspective is essential and child who is having a seizure certainly puts everything else in its place. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Jul 28, 2009 2:14:06 PM] |

I do this mostly for the kids.. even if my computers never find the work unit that eventually turns into a cure for something.. then maybe they'll find thousands that aren't..

Mike.. ![]() You are showing signs of adiction. ![]() ![]() I look at the new ones and I get confused.. 920/950/975 core i7's.. I see 8 and 12 core machines (Opteron/Xeon) on a website or two.. not sure which is best for crunching.. and I have NO idea how to outfit a computer the best way.. I'm computer stupid compared to most.. Mike.. ![]() ![]() |

It is confusing. Not only do you have to think about the computers themselves, you also have to think about the electricity and heat, space to put them, monitors, KVMs, Operating Systems, routers and ...
----------------------------------------I know there are a lot of guys here that like to build their own but I just like to get prebuilt machines that are in the "sweet spot" on the price/performance curve. While there are faster computers than the i7 920s now, their price is much higher and there are cheaper computers but their BOINC througput is much lower. Of course the sweet spot will move soon..but that is always the case. ![]() |

I will probably not be here for stats tonight. I am really not well. I may be back in through the night.

I've lost a lot of faith in WCG as they refuse to upgrade to modern technology. Give us GPU computing in WCG or I'll keep my main resources at projects that do! If Stanford can roll out a GPU client for FOLDING@HOME, why can't WCG with its IBM backing? I suppose that I have stirred the pot and caused Jonathan to leave WCG and MOT. I truly regret that as it certainly is not the fault of WCG as they don't write the code. Nor is it the fault of MOT. So I feel I should apologize to the team. Sorry. ![]() Now I wish I had not brought it up in the first place. Now DM as well!! I apologize again! Sorry Everyone! No reason to be sorry |
