Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 37 smilesmile

I've lost a lot of faith in WCG as they refuse to upgrade to modern technology. Give us GPU computing in WCG or I'll keep my main resources at projects that do! If Stanford can roll out a GPU client for FOLDING@HOME, why can't WCG with its IBM backing?

Saying that WCG refuses to upgrade to modern technology is a bit harsh. It's up to the individual projects to convert their applications to exploit GPUs, not the WCG organization itself. It seems that right now HCC is the only project considering a GPU version any time soon. I'm sure you are aware that this subject has been beaten to death in the other forums.

Hey everyone. Thanks for your support and the introduction to the crunching community! I'm moving to XtremeSystems now because they embrace GPU crunching and the new wave of distributed computing technology. It was fun gents. I hope I see you all in the future. Your contributions to DC are truly worthwhile.

WCG is still the source of the projects and "hosts" them. WCG should be pushing forth GPU crunching. The question has been asked many times but everytime it's always the same answer.

If they're working on it, where are the results?

The science applications have to be written for GPU. WCG does not write the science applications. Did you see this post by Sekerob regarding a study of Autodock performance on GPU? FAAH, DDDT, IADS, HFCC all use Autodock.
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost?post=239413
Also, a NRW scientist made a post about why they are not using GPU.

sad Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 37 smilesmile

I've lost a lot of faith in WCG as they refuse to upgrade to modern technology. Give us GPU computing in WCG or I'll keep my main resources at projects that do! If Stanford can roll out a GPU client for FOLDING@HOME, why can't WCG with its IBM backing?

I suppose that I have stirred the pot and caused Jonathan to leave WCG and MOT. I truly regret that as it certainly is not the fault of WCG as they don't write the code. Nor is it the fault of MOT.

So I feel I should apologize to the team. Sorry.

Now I wish I had not brought it up in the first place. Now DM as well!! I apologize again! Sorry Everyone!
