Evening all Successful day with daughter after the usual odd snags when dealing with computers and new software but got the old drive in a caddy and so she has lost nothing important. What a young lot you all are. I'll keep quiet for the moment as a senile old man. LOL Reading and understanding (not) & jumping to conclusions immediate thoughts as an owld josser Is that Ivan's been cruising in a Cadillac Okay I'm wrong . being born in a certain year Ivan dosnt give us any gravitas or creditability but as one get older one can only play catch up Us younger owldies keep trying, Just like you doing your walks urban gardening and keeping the faith me? I just t to enjoy each & every day as it dawns also able to proclaim rubbish to one and all and to be thought of just abit of a old git who knows nothing But who care's anyway ? nice to be able to spout ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by densnaps at Aug 21, 2009 8:46:38 PM] |

The Women Tell Me Every Day
----------------------------------------by; Anacreon (570-488 B.C.) The Women tell me every day That all my bloom has past away. "Behold," the pretty wantons cry, "Behold this mirror with a sigh; The locks upon thy brow are few, And, like the rest, they're withering too" Whether decline has thinn'd my hair, I'm sure I neither know or care, But this I know, and this I feel, As onward to the tomb I steal, That still as death approaches nearer, The joys of life are sweeter, dearer; And had I but an hour to live, That little hour to bliss I'd give! I don't recall any named after stars from the silver screen my mum, born in 1953 was named Ingrid after Ingrid Bergman :) (and she considers herself really lucky since the other choice was Barbara after some other actress my grandfather liked, I forget her name I must add though that both Ingrid and Barbara were considered normal names in Belgium at the time (and still are) but we had a huge influx of english names after both world wars off for a long bikeride in the sun we went to pick up our coffee table today ,only 8 months after we ordered it, they forgot it, lost a container and forgot it once more but now it's here yay ![]() |

Good morning everyone
---------------------------------------- I grew up too young for Viet Nam, too old for Desert Storm. I support the troops no matter who's or where. I can't always support the people who put them there. It's easy to make a decision that costs lives when you're sitting behind a desk and it's some elses life, someone elses loved ones. I grew up in an era when adults spent time visiting each other and doing things together. In an era when people knew something about what they were buying BEFORE they bought it. An era when your business was appreciated and a good friend could get a discount BECAUSE he was a friend, not just because he spent $10000 with you last year. IE my dad ran a sporting goods store for 20+ years. He had a card he would give to special customers good for 10% off (he would actually give 10% to anyone that asked for a discount) but the card made those people feel really special and appreciated. When he retired, he sold the company back to the original owners son who immediately stopped honoring the cards. He was out of business in 5 years. I've worked in retail since I was 7 and I still am amazed at how many people plunk down $20-30-40000+ for cars, boats, whatever, and have no idea what they just bought. Here in the U.S., at least once a year in any auto parts store someone will come in and ask for a part (they don't really know what it is, does or if it's really the problem...thier know-it-all neighbor said they needed it) and when you ask what kind of car it's for, they say, " I don't know, it's outside." (if they were actually able to drive it there) IE my son had a woman come in and ask for a pat for a 2008 Ford Silverado. He told her that Silverado is a Chevy. She said she refused to let her husband buy the Chevy he wanted and that he could only get a Ford. So my son goes out and sure enough, there sits a 2008 Ford Silverado (turns out the husband bought the Chevy, removed the Bowties and Chevrolet emblems and attached Ford ovals) And she really believes it's a Ford! Which one of these people is the bigger idiot? Now corporate big wheels have run the little man that cares out of business and now they sit in thier cushy office and try to run the stores based on a percentage and comparing stores in multiple locations without figuring in demographics. IE the store where I work. Our RM compares us to a store 60 miles away in another state. They have 1/5th the unemployment rate we do, 1/2 the competition, interstate highways, and they're in a city with 4-5 times the population. This comparison from the same corporate dimwit that insists on having the store open on Sunday (21 hrs of payroll for maybe $500 in gross sales) I'm too young (and broke) to retire and too old to adapt to this stupid world. Space flight and colonization? Our governments will never allow FTL tech to be released. They know if humanity suddenly had the ability to go somewhere and start over, we'd go and show them how it should be done. Well, I'm done ranting. Thanks for listening I appreciate it.Y'all have a great weekend. PS. Does anyone REALLY believe crude is $40/barrell? I think they just tell us that so they can jack the price of gas up.
One drop raises the sea.
