Evening all
A sunny day here and a good one to welcome JP back. As for fighting, my particular generation was lucky. My Dad was too old for an immediate call up in WW2 and then was the only male farm worker on the farm where we lived so got exemption and had only to do Home Guard duties. Only one uncle was called up early and he spent most of his time off the coast of West Africa as the engineer on a motor boat company. When it came time for my National Service, although there had been a few scares and the term had been extended from eighteen months to two years, there was very little conflict going on. So I had a great break from the office and after initial flying training at Kirby and the IOM, spent the time training in Canada and finished my time in Germany. I was tempted to stay on but the idea of trying to start a civilian career again in eight or so years time didn't appeal. I am amazed, but very grateful, that young men and women are prepared to enlist for a job which has a higher risk than normal of it being a short life and then having to find a second career after service. |

Morning all
----------------------------------------My Brush with the military was to take the place vacated by a lad that was called up . Great job in a Bicycle shop we built and repaired Bikes and Wirelesses It was called "CycloRadio" I know I know It according to Den should have been called "BicycleWireless" But it was only a small shop not enough room to write all that ..........************* IVAN Wrote I am amazed, but very grateful, that young men and women are prepared to enlist for a job which has a higher risk than normal of it being a short life and then having to find a second career after service. ************* Couldn't agree more but Enlist they do. Just to say that at the end of service every help is now given to put them in a strong position to obtain a career in civvy street. It was at one time everyone wanted into the 'Putor bizzness The lad , who is at this moment doing a job in Harrogate as a trainer/tutor with the Army Maybe 18 months from Demob ( wonder will he get one of those Demob suits ) He Has been studying for risk assessment Every company/ organistation in the country has to have some involvement with a risk assessor. He is actually a fully qualified chef catering management and so forth and can make baked beans look like caviare (tho why would you ?) But says he doesn't want to see another professional kitchen when he leaves the mob . |

My in-laws lived in the Prince of Wales mansions..
----------------------------------------Sounds "Grand" but it was an old hotel converted to apartments Admitted a wonderful position overlooking the "Stray" an open parkland area in the outskirts of the town ... google to see images , the outlaws flat was on the top floor right hand side ..... |
