I pray JP gets better soon.
Now, for my friends in England. Do you go to London or do you avoid it like the plague? I watch Top Gear when I can and have seen them try several challenges in London. I hate big cities and mass congestion and London seems to be right up there with both. I avoid London like the Plague. I was offered a Job in London or one in Norwich and surprisingly I ended up in Norwich. Whenever I go there its like I can feel the psychic pressure of 7.5 million people bearing down upon my head (indeed, in the "metro area" there are 13 million). The problem is so much stuff in the UK can be very London Focused. "What do you mean you don't have a London Office?" our prospective clients ask us, and we reply with "Hev Yew Gotta Loight, Boy" etc etc. I was away this weekend on my "Stag" do, and, being of the slightly more ... geek... origin, it was absolutly awesome. We visited Bletchley Park. Now, I went there in 1999 and it was awesome, and ten years later it is just better. If you guys are interested in old computers, this blows the socks of the science museum in london because they only show the computers that are still working. If you're interested in Radio, then this is also the home to Milton Keynes Club, and also the RSGB museum is moving there next year. The private collection of WW2 and Cold War radio gear is quite impressive, and its a very reasonable £10 entrance, which actually is a year pass as well. Daddymoo..
A few years ago I did some research into a rather remarkable young lady from this village who died in 1942. It turned out she was with SOE! , and in my research I came across a man from a nearby village who, not only remembered her well but worked on the decoading section of Bletchley Park! Regretably he died earlier this year, his stories were remarkable. Her regiment, F.A. N, Y (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry) was in fact a cover up unit for Secret Agents who worked for Colonel Buckmaster in covert operations in both Europe and the Far East! A remarkable bunch of women and men. One of the most "Famous" of course was Violette Szabo another was Odette Churchill. There is a plaque in their memory on the outside wall of St Pauls Church, Wilton Place, Knightsbridge London. There are 54 names on the plaque, of whom, Odette Hallowes (Odette Churchill) Violette Szabo, and Noor Inayet Khan - were awarded the George Cross. Thank you for reminding me! |

Evening all
Yet another sunny day - and I love London. It let me throw away the car, get free transport and Lord's in forty five minutes. |
