What happened to the other thread? If nothing else it was worth reading Mr_Luc's responses... Intelligent AND funny, it was a classic and now it's gone! Why thank you old scone! I *do* have the key post (the response to the email issue) saved locally, and I would repost it, but I realized that when you are successfully poking fun at a team (even if *some* members of that team are clearly enjoying the back-and-forth, and if there's nothing objectionable about the way the banter is conducted), you should make sure that the team in question doesn't count the mods of the forum among it's members. Seems a bit of a conflict of interest -- if not in general, certainly with ANY moderation done to MOT/TW threads. ;) Given the way that MOT took this, I would say that any thread deletion is automatically suspect. Of course -- we already HAVE a forum, and quite a nice one. It's just when we want to inform the public about matters of pressing concern -- for instance, the ritual child sacrifice and Baal-worship performed by MOT members, or their acts of sedition and communist terrorism -- that we feel the need to non-confrontationally bring discussion of these vital topics to the WCG forums. |

Well, wouldn't you know it.
----------------------------------------I made a post in another thread -- again, quoting the email that the MOT fellow sent Houston back -- and, surprise surprise, it was deleted! ;) It was a pretty well-constructed post, and entirely inoffensive. However, it did point out that the inability of certain people within MOT to handle this gracefully has given TW a good leg up on transitioning from theatrical, good-natured "hatred" to a quite genuinely earned loathing. In particular, it seems that they are pretty embarrassed about this email that one of their webmasters/mods sent to Houston. I will try an experiment. I will even mask the obscenity and see if it gets deleted. At this point, it would be pretty inexcusable . . . The email that Houston sent, because they left an email broadcast interface unsecured on their public website -- after they were aware of the forums threads on TW : Hi Graham A Hood, you're GOING DOWN *******. FEEL THE BURN, ********************* And the reasonable response . . . which conjures up images of bursting capillaries and futile, Comic-Book-Guy-style "vengeance" : YOU ARE ABOUT TO EMBARK ON A LIFE OF SHEER ****.... I KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU THAN YOU WOULD EVER DREAM OF FROM A FEW SIMPLE SEARCHES... WELCOME TO **** CANDYBOY! ****** ******* **** *** ******** *** **** **** ***** ** ****** **** ** **.********** ********************* (Address Removed by World Community Grid administrator) Ah, the unimaginable terror of the WHOIS query. :D [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Apr 9, 2005 4:32:47 PM] |

mr_luc,
----------------------------------------World Community Grid would appreciate it if you would change the tone and nature of your posts to conform to the rules of these forums. These are available here . One of the reasons for these rules is that World Community Grid is a website that is utilized by many different people of all ages. This includes elementary school children. We have been in contact with a number teachers who have used World Community Grid in their lesson plans and we are planning on making lesson plans available in the near future that discuss grids and the human proteome folding project. As such, children will be visiting this website. We expect the members who post in these forums to use language and tone that are appropriate for reading by children so that it is a safe and friendly environment for them to explore. thank you, knreed [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Apr 9, 2005 1:11:01 AM] |

LOL I guess you've been told, Luc. I know -- hadn't noticed that these forums have to be child-safe, as well as work-safe. To make up for it, I made my recent update much more child-friendly. You can find it here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2409 |

I wonder if non-sexual humor that implies that homosexuality is ok is considered child-safe . . . I think that people would HAVE to say yes, so that leaves TW members with a nice little outlet for our angst. ;) |

Oh no! I can see it in the headlines now..."Online gaming group Tribalwar.com has become the first group to ever be kicked from a global charitable effort. The world community grid organizers finally decided enough was enough after the Tribalwar members made a mockery of the WCG forums and repeatedly taunted other teams. The grid organizers have since removed all accounts associated with the Tribalwar heathens. Beware of these online thugs (known in inner circles as Teedub), if you see them in a group it would be best to avoid them at all costs!" ![]() |
