By successful, I mean visits from as many crunchers as possible
– not necessarily timewise; just being present for a bit. To act unselfish in one more way.
I can only guess how much time SNURK has spent on his entreprise through the years,
and I can only guess how many gray hairs the EU regulation affair cost him
– if he has any left to turn gray!

where untraditional people live untraditional lives and at the contrasting recently erected yuppie neighborhoods

with canals of their own in the same part of town.
It's all just a short swim south from my uncomfortable recliner

Hi long time since I was in base camp ...
I am here to inform those crunchers here ,that the founder of our home team the Edwardians Ted Wade sadly passed away today peacefully in the company of his family RIP Ted

Thank you for arranging for a much-needed fuel stop stefada. I have a selection of beer and avocados behind the seat in the cargo hold for my fellow base campers. For now, I will stretch my legs and rest before saying "hello" to SNURK and friends.

For the record, Escher 1 is an HM.8 Avionnette, not a "little Fokker".

En fait, 'Grosses pattasses', ce n'est même pas du Français, donc avec mon niveau en Anglais, c'est vraiment difficile à traduire. Bien sûr, ça veut dire qu'il a des grosses pattes. Mais aussi, qu'il est pataud par rapport à son gabarit, que c'est encore un 'bébé'. Et puis, c'est une grosse peluche ! La seule chose qu'il fait quand il n'est pas d'accord avec ce qu'on lui demande, c'est de s'écraser par terre. Comme si il disait : "Non, je ne veux pas, je ne bougerais pas d'ici".

In fact, 'Grosses pattasses', it's not even French, so with my level in English, it's really difficult to translate. Of course, that means he has big legs. Désolé pour la confusion NixChix, tu me fais tellement rêver avec ces images d'avions, que je m'embrouille un peu.

Little Mermaid, est-ce que tu sais que l'écharpe blanche des pilotes vient justement de ces modèles sans verrière de cockpit ? A l'époque, on n'avait pas encore inventé le variomètre (l'instrument qui sert à donner le taux de monter ou de descente). Alors les pilotes utilisaient leur écharpe, si elle allait vers le haut, c'est qu'ils descendaient, et vis versa. Du moins, c'est ce qu'on dit.

Little Mermaid, do you know that the pilot's white scarf comes from these models without a cockpit canopy? At the time, we had not yet invented the variometer (the instrument used to give the rate of going up or down). Then the pilots used their scarf, if it went upwards, it was because they were coming down, and vice versa. At least, that's what they say.


Books

En ce moment, je lis un livre (Le CHAMP du POTIER) d'Andrea Camilleri, un Sicilien qui a un style très particulier, très connu en Italie. Le traducteur en Français, Serge Quadruppani, utilise un peu d'Occitan dans sa traduction, et quelques verbiages, pour 'rester fidèle à l'esprit'. Je ne sais pas du tout si ça peut se traduire en Anglais, surtout que je n'en suis qu'au début, et que je découvre. Mais c'est très intéressant, même si des fois je dois relire deux fois.

At the moment, I am reading a book (The FIELD of POTIER) by Andrea Camilleri, a Sicilian who has a very particular style, well known in Italy. The translator in French, Serge Quadruppani, uses a bit of Occitan in his translation, and some verbages, to 'stay true to the spirit'. I do not know at all if it can translate into English, especially since I'm only at the beginning, and that I discover. But it's very interesting, although sometimes I have to re-read twice.
