Message 15798 - Posted 11 Mar 2008 16:41:37 UTC

BOINC 5.10.45 is now the new stable release for all platforms.

This release is a bug fix release which includes fixes for better proxy
support through the use of the <force_auth> configuration option in
cc_config.xml which is defined here:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ClientMessages

This release also contains fixes for startup/shutdown issues when
running on Windows Vista.

Enjoy.

Re: An OSX bug

Been crunching for a few days in Leopard and so far (knock on wood) no problems except it seems I can only download about a day and a half of WU's. From reading other posts it looks like this is wide spread problem. How about the rest of the mac users, pretty stable with the latest version of boinc?

Re: An OSX bug

I'm pleased to report that the OSX bug is non-existent with the HCC project anymore. I've not had one stall since I switched to HCC only. It would appear that in fixing the page fault problems they've fixed the OSX bug.

I hope they might be able to examine the other projects and apply the same mojo to them as well.

I am running all the projects, except climate, with no lockups or errors. So far so good with leopard. laughing

Re: An OSX bug

Interesting...Unfortunately my experience with my 3 leopard machines was that it made it far worse - stalling within minutes on multiple cores. I also have compared the page faults by projects and it is many magnitudes less with the HCC project now over all others. Its OK by me really, as I derive much satisfaction with cancer projects and if my machines do more of it, (by virtue of faulting less) all the better.

I hope the developers make similar changes to the other projects so as to make more efficient use of our donated cycles. cool

Re: An OSX bug

Not sure if this is a bug but this morning I looked at activity monitor and checked out my active processes. The boinc master was in red showing not responding. I suspended everything, shut down boinc and restarted. Showing ok now. Boinc was still crunching though and no error messages shown. Not sure what to make of this. Any suggestions?

Re: An OSX bug

Sir Sir, the little red shield on the BOINCX icon merely indicates that the BOINCmgr lost contact with the BOINC daemon/service. Simply reconnecting thru the advanced menu > select computer without filling anything in and hitting OK would prolly have re-established connection to the still running processes. You though need to look at the why and what is interfering with RPC/Loopback traffic because this may be the root cause of Mac users perceiving that things are hanging when they are in fact not.

Re: An OSX bug

Sek, I don't think he's not talking about the shield.
In the activity monitor (task manager in windows), if a process is not responding it will show up as red.

Bearcat, this is what happens right before your work unit stops responding. boinc_master will die but the work units will keep crunching for a while but they will stop eventually because of this.

I love inglese.... so it is, but you make it appear it's not, which is not the case.... it's the red print in the activity monitor, my mistake wink

Still the BM dying before could be a related issue. Try running without the BM.

a dopo
