Re: The Formula One Thread

Button may join Hamilton at McLaren next year if Brawn can't agree contract.

Re: The Formula One Thread

I suppose it's good news that Todt takes over but as being heavily supported by the outgoing president, I'll wait and see if it really is a new broom.

I would be a bit surprised if Button does decide on McLaren. He can hardly be considered as other than the second driver. I suspect it's part of the tactics of pay negotiations for next year.

Donnington has until Monday lunchtime; do you really think they can raise the money over the weekend?

McLaren needs to stop listening to 'daddy dearest' and start listening to what makes their Team better! 'Daddy dearest' is interested in what makes his son look better and if that means another teammate that can't push Lewis at every race for positions and points, then so much the better for Lewis and 'daddy dearest'! The Team needs to take the bull by the horns and make decisions on what is best for them and their sponsors and a weak teammate next to Lewis is NOT it!! Lewis needs to be pushed to improve and to show just how much they saw in him when they hired him! He can be excellent at times but this year, I forget the race, he actually asked the Team if they wanted him to park the car and stop the race. His Team told him just to drive and they would do the strategy!! How arrogant is that, to think that driving the car is pointless? Hekki was already out of that race and Lewis now wants to pull over and stop with a perfectly good car! Yes he was near the back but if he can't move forward in the car, he needs to stay in it until he figures out how to do it! There were still alot of laps to go at that point, he lost alot of respect in my eyes at that point of his career! What is that old saying "when the going gets tough, the tough get going"! Lewis seemed like just another prima-donna race driver then, 'oh it's going too slow and I don't want to be embarrassed anymore' is like what he was saying! Those mechanics spent HOURS getting that car ready for him and he wants to pull over?!!

Re: The Formula One Thread

Good one Den!

When you watch the bikes racing you really see excitement and proper overtaking. I'm not sure they can ever reproduce that in F1.

Good one Den!

When you watch the bikes racing you really see excitement and proper overtaking. I'm not sure they can ever reproduce that in F1.

I think the problem between the two is that for bikes the tracks are REALLY WIDE but for cars on the same track it is obviously narrower. Until Herman Tilke figures out how to make overtaking spots on street tracks and then re-configures the existing tracks, the races will still be won and lost in the pits and in qualifying! Maybe the answer is no more Herman tracks?! Fortunately/unfortunately KERS will be gone next year, meaning that the slower cars with KERS won't be able to keep the faster cars at bay anymore on the tracks you can/could pass on. I don't see how that could ever translate to real cars but it was exciting to watch them keep the line of cars behind them, kind of like the 'Trulli train' days of old. Get behind Jarno and you could be there until he pits!!

And I just can't believe that Force India could make a car that was sooo much easier to drive than a Ferrari!! What the heck is Ferrari thinking? Technology obviously did not equate to a better car for them did it? Trulli goes from almost winning one race to coming in near last in the rest, and all he did was switch cars! Force India has no movable aero front wing, very few steering wheel changeable things, etc, etc yet almost beats Ferrari and does beat the the rest of the field!! Obviously putting hundreds of millions into a car is not always a good thing!! Someone needs to rethink the way they go about making the car better, sometimes taking a step back is better! You definitely can over think the problem!!
