Good luck One thing I might point out though. When you have a specialized group here as a team, many who whold join you may think they are not welcome. I push this edge myself with "Are you an online gamer?" in my team thread. This is how I know. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Not directed at anyone particular, Really Really make sure to get the consent of installation on machines not 'your' true legal ownership. We would not want to 'gain' a machine crunching for WCG and peeing the owner off and leaving a bad taste, loosing a future growth potential, particular with those in charge of medium and large size computing resources. A trial "buy-in / expand later" approach gets lots more credit. thanks I do have several machines that are owned by my employer that I run Grid on, but with the business owners permission. As one of the IT guys, I can access & install it on any of the machines I deem appropriate for it to run on. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

OH, and yes. I thought it was assume that those here KNOW that their machine is connected here. There is that whole "moral issue" issue. And you you want to deny them from knowing that they are carving their own peice of history. Well would you?

Aloha
Nice principle, but sometimes " Bring the body, and the mind will follow". Some business people can't see the profit in all of this, so if you are IT, you set up a few machines, let em crunch and munch, and then show the boss. I've had friends who have had to do that. And voila! All of them still have the same jobs, two with raises! ![]() |

Saving energy.
----------------------------------------The first thing I did when I moved in was replace all of the fixtures with compact flourescent. The little 60watt equivalents will fit almost anywhere. I did have a problem with small specialty lights - mostly candelabra. These CFL's are about 5 times more expensive than regular ones but I did it anyway. My only real problem is that I like to use X10 automation modules. For CFL fixtures, I have to use appliance modules to control them. For fixtures controled by a wall switch, I have to use manual, non-dimming switches. It's a pain, but I've adapted. The great thing about X10 control is that you can set up a passive infra-red sensor (PIR) to turn the lights on when you enter a room and off after a specified period of inactivity. As long as the CFL fixture is plugged into an X10 appliance controller - it's no problem. There are downsides to X10 and I can elaborate if anyone is interested, but when it works properly, it's very handy and cuts way back on wasted lighting. I even have a few controllers that switch other appliances on and off based on motion sensing, but you can't practically do this with everything. I'm especially cautious when it comes to delicate electronics. I have 5 machines running wcg either as boinc or ud. Two more have to set up and I'm trying to find space. They're only 1ghz machines with slow memory so I haven't made it priority but hope to get them running soon. ![]() ![]() |

Its my team name and website! The blue button is the takes you to the team page.
----------------------------------------The website is undegoing renovation so not much to see yet. But it does hold the old server info for when I was doing game service. Take note of the link to I3r. It was the honor society that ran the servers. Now that the site that the servers ran on is now defunct, they have come here to further a new cause. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by courine at May 3, 2007 12:51:25 PM] |

Since last friday 6091 members joined, registering 15370 devices! Though there is still a significant daily gain in membership, it does seem to be tapering off a little as time passes since the Great Grid Unplugging. Updated to reflect the numbers for today.
