Which recent threads have flame wars? Can you link to them? Try the latest thread on points. Then there's the discussions of optimised clients. There's the MOT thread in the Teams forum from back in January and March of this year. There's the edited post where, in response to mention about a cruncher facing a possible amputation, a poster added their hope that their leg fall off (quite tasteless no matter how you try to look at it). Those I don't even need to look at the forums for. Frankly, I'd prefer not to look for more at the moment as I'm trying to keep my bile down. |

Thanks Movieman I've tried But I don't think it would make a great deal of difference if I threw in the CA towel and joined back in with the likes of Keith and the rest of the committed crew trying to make a difference. I'm just keeping schtum until I see what unfolds over the next couple of days. Dave Dave, I wouldn't blame you at all if you did. In your shoes, I think I'd prefer facing a Kobayashi Maru situation. Too bad we don't have our own Captain Kirk who can reprogram the computers. |

Keith, I hope it comes as no surprise to you, but I am also in agreement - and on a personal level I had already sent emails up the chain regarding some of those posts in threads you refer to recently and thankfully action was eventually taken, but not quickly enough for my liking. Perhaps if your suggestion of more members complaining on bulk is taken up, then action may be taken quicker in the future. I don't know if I really have a solution. Plenty have crossed my mind lately. IBM tells us it's best to just ignore such posts. Well, if it was the rare occasion that such posts occurred, I could accept that. That is most definitely not the case. It's a problem and one that is not well-controlled or managed. I am of the view that we need a zero-tolerance approach, at least until folks learn to behave. Yes, if you ban someone from the forums, there's nothing to stop them from switching to another username. SO FRIGGIN WHAT! That's the same logic that says criminals can go scott free if they can get out of your jurisdiction before you can catch them. Sorry, this whole mess has me peeved but I think folks can understand where I'm coming from. Whatever is done, I would prefer that it not require any more time on the admins part. Their priorities should be on boarding new projects and managing the current ones. It's not like they sit around twidling their thumbs for lack of work. This problem is one that should not even exist. To the extent we as a community cannot behave and police ourselves, that directly harms both the community and WCG. |

The stats are cooked my team who shall remain nameless
---------------------------------------- moves up a place and almost the equivalent of 51824 PC's ran the full 24 hoursSometimes you have to look on the bright side as 120,576 more work units have been put behind us. Keith I subscribe to the same view it says what it is on the tin it's the World Community Grid you would think that as a concept it should bring us all together. As a sociological experiment I find it fasinating that such a peaceful endevour should conjure up such extremes in people. Given free will we adopt the same divisions between ourselves as exist in the real world Countries, Religions (guilty as charged) and Politics. We really are a flawed species. 6.6 Billion of us and the Internet just reflects that diversity of characters. ![]() |

Given free will we adopt the same divisions between ourselves as exist in the real world Countries, Religions (guilty as charged) and Politics. We really are a flawed species. 6.6 Billion of us and the Internet just reflects that diversity of characters. Sigh.....when you look at ancient times and discuss the barbarity that existed then, it was pretty much straight-forward. Evil was evil and it didn't particularly care about disguising itself. I recall one of the Star Trek movies/episodes where they referred to our present time as barbaric. I didn't like that so much then. Truth is now, I realize they really weren't so wrong. Today we just tend to mask it in some fasod. I've thought that maybe I should just switch to some other DC project out there. There's plenty. But would it really be that different on another project? More so, why shouldI leave because of the actions of a few individuals? How hard is it to simply say that you disagree with someone instead of calling them a blazing idiot? I don't like the fact that such posts remain in the forums or at least that there's no clear, undeniable response that such actions/behavior are/is found objectionable to the rest of us. Sorry folks, I'm funked by this. Time to walk away - for the night that is. I'm awaiting anyone's further ideas/suggestions in the meantime. It's time to draw the line in the sand folks and say enough is enough. How do we do that? |

I'm probably going to make myself upopular saying this, but one thing I am wary about is giving CA's the power of banning members, and I am slightly reticent about giving them back the powers of editing/closing/removing threads after what happened in the past which caused the removal of those powers.
Although I have the highest regard for the CA's here - your not a bad bunch - I think due to the fact they are also active team members as well, it could leave them open to critisism and allegations of team bias in certain situations which may lead to more flame wars etc.All I would like to see is the WCG staff being a little more active in carrying out these kind of things. |
