My big cruncher is down again. Periodic shut downs. When I get time, will go through the logs to try and pinpoint the issue. Really don't want to reinstall OS but might have to do that. Looking at a AMD chip with same amount of threads, a lot of complaints about heat issues. How's everyone enjoying spring finally?

Installed Ubuntu to see if it still dies. If it does, then know its a hardware issue. If not, then my win7 pro is corrupt. Am hoping Ubuntu crunches a bit faster.

Its been a busy time of year. I got a new roof, which was needed as the old one was 30 years old, but still in pretty good shape, but still, that is no reason to test fate.
----------------------------------------I took a second course at the local college this spring. It was the follow up course to the one I took fall semester. I am trying to get a few more tools in my tool box to help with the substitute teaching I do occasionally. I may take another one in fall, but am not sure I want think that hard again. Right now it is a toss up between trigonometry, business statistics or nothing at all. I thought one of my 8 core Xeons died because it would not start up any more. It tried, but would turn itself off after about 10 seconds. I left it alone for a couple of days to rest and tried it again. Surprisingly it took off again and appears to be working fine. The power supply may be going bad on it after all this time. The grass is turning green and that means it will soon be time to start yard work and put the garden in. And it will be time to clean the chicken shed after the winter. And get new chicks. And paint another side of the house. And maybe keep looking to upgrade some of my older systems. Well, I have to get cracking on the books because I have a final coming up in two weeks and I don't want to wait for the last minute to do a semester's worth of review. Cheers

Thanks for the update. Its been a long time since i checked in. I live in Seattle area now. We pulled the UHaul from Texas to Seattle last summer. What a trip! It is a nice area and new places are always exciting. BTW, it does not rain as much as everyone thinks.
----------------------------------------My folks made the drive from Ham Lake MN to Seattle to visit and take their granddaughter camping. They went to Mt. Rainer national park and she loved it. Now all she wants to do is go camping again.

Great to hear from you again. It sounds like you are enjoying the west coast. How is the cost of living there? Is it as expensive I have heard ? I hope you enjoy the more temperate climate. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Cheers

Mother Nature is conspiring against me. With all the rain we have had lately, the water table here has been raised to the approximate level of about 1/2 inch(1.25cm) above the level of my basement floor. This has resulted in a stream of water across the floor over to my sump pump, which runs about every thirty seconds now. Luckily I do not have a finished basement (about a 100 year old house). I have moved everything off of the floor. Unfortunately, I have a couple of systems which reside in my basement. I will be shutting them down as soon as they finish the work units in their respective queues. It was a good place to have the machines, especially in the summer as the temperature of the basement stayed below 60F(16C) for most of the summer, due to the massive heat sink of the walls composed of poured concrete over granite blocks. Once I shut down the systems I will temporarily move them to a much dryer location, but I don't have the electrical circuits to run them in a different location. So, my output will diminish until the basement dries out. Hopefully we will get an extended period of dry weather to get the water table down again.
----------------------------------------School will be ending at the end of next week, so that will free up some time, although I have been gradually cutting down on the volunteer time as the school year winds down. I have had a couple of substitute jobs in the past week, but only take them when I am really needed. If I wanted, I could have a substitute job almost every day due to the acute shortage of substitutes. Hope everybody has a nice Memorial Day weekend and stays safe. Volunteer Cheers

I hope the waterworks get turned off for a little while. We got another .9 inches (2.3cm) of rain yesterday. This will only make the water table rise some more and increase the stream flowing across my basement floor. I can tell it will be a significant amount of time before I get the basement machines running again.
