sad Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Its all relative I guess. My dually machine uses 410 watts at the wall. crying They are the 140w tdp Opteron 6180's and they do good work but it hurts when the bill comes.

When I was crunching with the GPU on my dually, I was pushing 450 watts. AMD server chips do eat allot of wattage. If you have GPU installed and have the option for on board video, remove it. It helps. Remove any unused memory modules too.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

An update on the ramdisk. Working like a charm on the dually. Tried a different ramdisk software on my other cruncher since it was free. Killed my cruncher. Had to reinstall the system. Going to try the free version of AMD's (4GB) on this rig and see how it goes. Seems better not having a mechanical drive spin up. Should work real good for CEP2 WU's.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Free version is working great too. 388MB used on a 4GB ram disk with 11 threads. Beats chewing on a hard drive. Will be crunching CEP2 when I hit 2 years on the new project.

Sounds good. Save on wear and tear.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

OK, yesterday was autumn, today is winter. It started snowing about 3 to 4 AM and continues snowing heavily as I write this. I estimate we have 6 to 7 inches (14 to 17 cm) now and it is supposed to snow until tomorrow. Visibility is down to about 75 yards (68 m). We could get somewhere between 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) before this is over. At least the wind is fairly quiet at the moment. The forecast is calling for sub zero F (-18 C) by Friday morning. All of the area schools and some businesses cancelled this morning.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

It has been quite a day. It has quit snowing. We took several measurements of the snow depth, which was quite level because there was little wind. It was pretty consistent at 17 inches (43 cm). I had spent yesterday getting the snowblower onto my lawn tractor just so I would be ready for today. However, it turns out the clutch mechanism on the front pto is worn out. The pto just barely engages, not enough to be effective. So, we shoveled out everything. I will sleep very well tonight. Stay well and crunch on.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

About 12 inches out by clearwater. 4 wheeler struggled a bit pushing all this snow. Finished in about 2 hrs. Will have to tidy up tomorrow. Plows came by and stuffed my driveway enterance. Joe, can come out with the 4 wheeler to plow you out if ever needed. Don't need to stroke out shoveling.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

99 centimeter (39 inch) here.

With this I mean that if working on step-ladders, it is legal to rise up to high of 99 centimeters (39 inch).
If some daredevil need necessary to climb up to 100cm (39 inch), then ladder need criterian mentioned on: Law of Finland 205-2009, Chapter 6, ยง32, Attachment 6.

Got some foreign dudes coming to perform cabling and they do not bring their own ladders. Think that I will perform ladder-parts myself on dark night.
For secure, need to take pocket flask of hard liquor in case of somebody will spot me. Just need to sip it with one swig and tell that like to get drunk on high places.
That way they never/ever can prove that I was sober and working cowboy
