Everybody drive carefully. I did, however an oncoming Pontiac didn't... (Police report found him at fault) Pictures: https://plus.google.com/photos/10075260255359...69?authkey=CIjS-Yr64cOPTg I'm fine, driving a Volvo after all! :) Shopping for a replacement soon. (It's a total, obviously). Ouch! Nasty looking. Glad you're okay! If you've got to get hit, getting hit in a Volvo is a good thing. I must admit I wasn't a fan of the one Volvo I owned. The engine had a knack for deciding to die and refusing to start until I spent $750-1000 on it. It'd run fine for another 15-20K miles and then it would do it again. Not a fan of driving a powerless car in the middle of the freeway. Still, I managed to squeeze 100K miles out of it. As for the pictures of yours, reminds me of back in my prehistoric days when an oncoming Caddy (coupe de ville) making a left turn decided not to yield. Naturally totalled the VW Rabbit I was driving but surprisingly totalled the Caddy too. For a head-on, I was left with no car from the right front wheel to the left driver's door (nicely bowed - foot between middle of it and the car). Excellent proof of just how thick-skulled I really am. For no seat belts on, I had four minor cuts (one needed three stitches, rest just bandaids). Looked horrible as the one knick to the forehead was a real bleeder. Was all down the side of my face and half of the front of my shirt was soaked. The concussion was a lulu as I found out a couple of days later but this was back when they didn't get much attention like now. EMTs cleaned my up but wanted $40 to take me to the hospital to get checked out since I wasn't hurt bad. The cop, who seemed a tad queasy around me, drove me the 3-4 miles to the hospital. Sounds like you were quite lucky not to get hurt too badly. Here's to hoping that was the last one one of those you have to go through. Cheers

I did, however an oncoming Pontiac didn't... Dangit So nice to hear, that you are fine. Some technical challenges here. Did rethink anatomy of wireless from copper to 3G. My base-station dies continuously, cannot found any another reason anymore that there was too short idle_to_dead-time. Now changed to max. 7200s, so hopefully it will stay alive. Base-station actually stays online, but shut down connections to idle PC's and those cannot perform auto-recovery. I know after this weekend. Just notice that there is connect to network -option on Boinc, added 0,01d there, so hopefully will refrehs connection every 15 min. If that does not work, I'll try ping-t next. I still have some ancient PC's (dual cores 1,8GHz) and they crunch packets more that day, so those might create some challenges if line can be unused max. 2h. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Mar 8, 2013 9:10:11 AM] |

I have also had similar with wireless connections. For the moment I seemed to have solved them by using the most recent updates for drivers and at least one upgrade on an operating system. All of the problems were with various flavors of Linux (one old PC with WinXP was always able to connect even when nothing else did.)Four days running with no problems. Hope I do not jinx the system now that I say that. Hope your changes mean success.Cheers

I tend to think that Minnesotans all know how to drive in snow. I guess not... You are correct. The biggest problem is over driving the conditions - going too fast. SLOW DOWN, leave a little earlier and allow for the fact your trip is going to take longer. The second problem is the lack of paying attention to your driving. Nobody can avoid all accidents no matter their prudence and awareness, but they certainly go a long way in minimizing the risk. Cheers I agree completely, though I might modify it a bit and say is "over driving the conditions given your vehicle's equipment and your own driving skills". My wife and I run snow tires on both cars (my totaled S60R and her XC70 T6). I have also done about a dozen high performance driving events/schools at Brainerd Raceway and also one weekend over at Road America in WI. I've also done a few ice driving/racing events with the local Audi club on Lake Cynthia just south of the twin cities. If the rear of my car starts to skid, I know how to correct it whether it is snow, ice, rain, or dry pavement, whether I'm trying to brake or accelerate, and whether it is 20 MPH or 120 MPH (yes, I have video proof of the latter - entering turn 2 at Brainerd Raceway and losing the back end a bit while trail braking at about 120 MPH - I caught the skid quickly and easily). On the other hand, this oncoming Pontiac did not have snow tires, and in the split second I was seeing him slide into my path I could tell he wasn't counter-steering against the slide or anything else that would indicate any sort of emergency scenario driving skill... I wish MN had stringent driving exams like European countries... Police report made it official, the Pontiac driver was cited for "due care" and it also stated that for me and the SUV the accident was unavoidable. All insurance companies involved agreed without contesting. End rant. Going to check out a couple of 2007 S80 V8s this weekend as replacements. :) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 8, 2013 2:25:10 PM] |

Probably never took his foot off the gas either, with no snow tires he was probably hydroplaning. Cheers

With Minnesota Crunchers not entered in My Online Team's HCC points challenge this month, my tiny team, Coralville Crunchers, is actually hanging onto 10th place:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/challe...lenge.do?challengeId=5567 This is entirely due to two low-end AMD GPUs -- my 7750, which runs 24/7, and the integrated GPU in the A8-5700 in my husband's machine, which runs only when he's not on the computer. Even though they can't compare to the powerful GPUs some of you have, it blows me away how much they can outperform CPUs. ![]() |

This was my favorite one. Rocko's modern life:
----------------------------------------http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEpG3UsKv54 I've recently gotten rid of a few of the older machines to save electricity because of the new rates (well 6 month old rates now). Just so ya'll know why my contribution decreased some. Still doing what I can... ![]() |
