We have a couple of cold nights coming on the back end of the system then the warm up should help the roads get clear again. Given the amount of snow we had I am pleasantly surprised at how fast the roads here cleared. At 08:00 the roads were snow packed and slipperier than greasy (s)kid stuff. But by 1:00 PM it was warm enough that the roads were just wet. Cheers

We ended up getting about 6 inches in this storm. Similar to what Sgt. Joe said, it got up just over freezing this afternoon and the streets in town were just wet by the time everyone was going home from work.

Everybody drive carefully. I did, however an oncoming Pontiac didn't... (Police report found him at fault) Pictures: https://plus.google.com/photos/10075260255359...69?authkey=CIjS-Yr64cOPTg I'm fine, driving a Volvo after all! :) Shopping for a replacement soon. (It's a total, obviously). |

Good luck on another car. Cheers

I have fond memories of Rochester in Winter (and occasionally Summer). Being from Tucson the snow was a special treat. When I see your team name I am reminded. Thanks!

I tend to think that Minnesotans all know how to drive in snow. I guess not... You are correct. The biggest problem is over driving the conditions - going too fast. SLOW DOWN, leave a little earlier and allow for the fact your trip is going to take longer. The second problem is the lack of paying attention to your driving. Nobody can avoid all accidents no matter their prudence and awareness, but they certainly go a long way in minimizing the risk. Cheers

(It's a total, obviously). Ouch! Nasty looking. Glad you're okay! If you've got to get hit, getting hit in a Volvo is a good thing. I must admit I wasn't a fan of the one Volvo I owned. The engine had a knack for deciding to die and refusing to start until I spent $750-1000 on it. It'd run fine for another 15-20K miles and then it would do it again. Not a fan of driving a powerless car in the middle of the freeway. Still, I managed to squeeze 100K miles out of it. As for the pictures of yours, reminds me of back in my prehistoric days when an oncoming Caddy (coupe de ville) making a left turn decided not to yield. Naturally totalled the VW Rabbit I was driving but surprisingly totalled the Caddy too. For a head-on, I was left with no car from the right front wheel to the left driver's door (nicely bowed - foot between middle of it and the car). Excellent proof of just how thick-skulled I really am. For no seat belts on, I had four minor cuts (one needed three stitches, rest just bandaids). Looked horrible as the one knick to the forehead was a real bleeder. Was all down the side of my face and half of the front of my shirt was soaked. The concussion was a lulu as I found out a couple of days later but this was back when they didn't get much attention like now. EMTs cleaned my up but wanted $40 to take me to the hospital to get checked out since I wasn't hurt bad. The cop, who seemed a tad queasy around me, drove me the 3-4 miles to the hospital. |
