Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Yeah, sometimes I get down in the dumps and get tired of all things electronic. It might be weather related or work for that matter.

Know what you mean. Am still considering stopping at 100 years, or maybe move to another project for a change. Currently doing WCG and climate prediction. Have 17 yrs crunching time to figure it out. With 40 threads crunching, should be late summer when I hit the mark. Glad to see you back. wink

I rarely am bored with anything to do with DC'ing. WCG is the only project I am active in, but I know there are other worthy projects. So much computing to do and so little power to do it. The cancer projects have a special emphasis for me so I have concentrated on them, but not exclusively (about 50% of my time is on the two cancer projects.) I intend to keep going as long as I can afford it because I believe in the projects. If there is a better way to do computational biology or chemistry I am unaware of it. Hopefully my infinitesimal contribution will make someone's life at least marginally better sometime. And as an added bonus I have made the acquaintance of some very nice people and actually learned something.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Understandable. Just wish WCG would adjust things to accommodate folks with larger systems. Not the point of doing this but its nice to show what has been accomplished. Doubt I'll totally get out of it but might move on. Guess time will tell.

Upgrade BOINC to a newer version that uses an app_config set up. 100x easier to use than the app_info and will be a WCG requirement soon.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Good Friday. What a week it has been. Had to deal with one of the children going into the ditch. Went in just far enough so we had to call a tow. When they towed the car out they bent one of the rear control arms, but they replaced it at their cost. It just took a couple of days to get it done. It could have been worse. The car did not roll and no one got hurt. I had just been around the corner about 5 minutes earlier and I slowed way done to about 15 mph and made it just fine, but they did not slow quite enough.
That massive dDos attack has been having a little effect. I will have times when connections time out for around 5 minutes but then on the second or third try they go through. Normally my service is pretty spot on with very few tries but now it is spotty. Hopefully the perpetrators will come to their senses and quit the attack.
Everybody have a happy Easter (and Passover) season.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

This too has happened here, but only once in a great while with a snowy winter and a cool summer in a shaded place, but nothing like three years worth. When I was young we had a couple of large woodpiles which I was given the task of re-stacking in the autumn. The bottoms of the woodpiles were still frozen in ground even after the summer. It only happened one year that I can remember. Maybe you have the start of a new glacier laughing

Glad no one was hurt! That event sounds plenty stressful as it was.
Best to you for Easter, too.
