OK, I have run the Power Edge 1950 for long enough to get an idea how it performs. It does best on the autodock applications, averaging about 5400 BOINC points per day. On HCC it does about 5109 per day. On CFSW it does about 4900 per day. And bringing up the rear is CEP2 with about 4100. I had not thought there would be as big a difference among the applications but I think with CEP2 all of the I/O slows down the processing. It is running linux mint12 with 1 sata drive and 4 gigs of memory and 2 Xeon E5410 quad cores. This covers about 1400 completed work units. Next I will see how much electricity it is using. Cheers Looking good Joe. Those E series harpertowns aren't to bad on electricity. The L series are better but cost more. Would think those prices have come down to by now. If you ever see another sweet deal on that kind of system, let me know, provided you don't grab another.

I put the Kill-O-Watt on the Power-Edge today to see what the draw was. I only keep one of the redundant power supplies connected to keep the electrical use down. At full load it draws 250 watts which is not too bad - 31.25 watts per core on average. The temperatures are staying in the 50 to 55 C range. The fans are certainly noisy though, this is not one you would want running in your house, or at least not in an occupied room.

I checked for L series harpers just to see prices. Found a pair of 2.66 quads, matched set, for 50 bucks. Think they were 65 watts. Was surprised. Those FB-Dimms are still pricey. Might look around to see if I can get lucky to snag a cheap octo.

Wall is kind of curved, so was not able to stand back against wall ![]() You are right, it sure is minimalistic. I do like the wood however. I never lose my fascination with enjoying the sight of the grain in the wood. The curve in the wall gives a feeling of depth. Cheers
