Yes, it's just me thinking Russian genuine caviar from Caspian Sea sturgeons
- and sturgeons therefore being Russian exclusively Do you get caviar from a specimen like the one your brother caught there? How do you cook it? How does the meat taste? |

How do you cook it? How does the meat taste? In Minnesota I don't think you can keep them since they are quite rare and protected. Only on the border lake's between Canada and Minnesota can you keep a Surgeon and to keep it you need to buy a Sturgeon Tag and report your catch within 48 hour to the Department of Natural Resources in MN. But with that said, many cook books in the early days say that the fish and it's roe is a delicacy (my wife collects cook books). |

What do you do if you catch them and cannot keep them?
Throw them out again? Do you mean to say you have to make up your mind: "I'm going to catch myself some sturgeon tomorrow!" and then go to buy a Sturgeon Tag? And then when you have caught a creature like the one your brother has there, notify the authorities? When you have done all that, well, can you then cook it in good conscience without going to jail? And if you catch one by mistake - say you went for trout - must you throw it out again even if it is injured? I hope your brother had a Sturgeon Tag so you can taste it |

Your right on the money.
If you catch one and you don't have a tag you put it back even if it is injured and hope for the best. My brother took the picture and released it within a couple of minutes. Since he had a very small hook the game warden would know he was not "trying" to catch a Sturgeon. It was a fluke that he caught it. If you take a Sturgeon and you are not on the border lakes and you don't have a tag, you will be ticketed, summonsed to court and it's up to a Judge what your fine will be. It can be quite severe. You probably would loose your ability to fish in Minnesota for several years and have a several thousand dollar fine to boot! |

You take that seriously, don't you!And being robbed of the ability to go fishing must be a severe punishment for those who really like it - maybe more so than paying the fine. So no sturgeon steak or roe this time. But then again, reindeer isn't bad either, I hear from Finland. Isn't caribou about the same? |

Darn that is some ice
----------------------------------------![]() Nice fish also ![]() Envy of both of those, here was +9'F (+49'F) today, there is no ice on Finland except most northern lakes. Notice that this climate change (orwhatever) causes me out-of-planet experiment during Xmas. Really hit me when I was putting candles to my relatives graves. It has always been something very cold and ultrablue ritual , sky has been some 5k kelvin and start to bend all over to this deep blue which turn to kristal kind of darkness on arctic cold... Absolutely most wonderful winter wonderland where time always stand still. Something so ultradeep and ultracalm. But now hekk there is warm, moist and grass is growing. There is green as far as eye can carry.. Then when wind makes drizzle move horizontally, I have this feeling that somebody is slapping wet woolsock against my face. It's really crappy, I mean that it might take some LSD before I get that same feeling that I did have on this planet few years ago..... Really crappy.... ![]() |

So I would say that there was ten beaufort on my home street. Did you get any video? It's fun to go to Lake Superior during a high wind event. The waves on that lake get pretty big, and it's fun to watch them crash on shore. |

I didn't even notice the ice, ultimaThule, until you mentioned it.
Yes, green winters are dull, but white ones can be a hassle. Last year Denmark's eastern/southern island of Bornholm battled 1,5 meters of snow - some 5 feet - but in all honesty that is a one-in-100-years-event: Denmark one year ago |
