The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

So I'm a fan of this internet navigator and thought to share with you the awe causing extensions (Add-On in new speak), that make this the best, and probably safest, none-OS integrated, independent app there is. One at the time:
Resizeable Textarea . For those that write novels in posts and blogs, the answer. Firefox has already got a build in spell-check feature, for many many languages...just load the dictionary u need as default and usher the prose with on the fly verification of your english e.g. in US or British standard. By dragging the right hand bottom corner you can increase/decrease the size of the typing fenster to see the full impact to give it the width e.g. same as the forum posts u are reading now, without having to scroll around. It works no different like a window in a spreadsheet program.....try it.

For those who wish to share their amazing, cant' do without firefox/bon-echo add-on, one at the time please and dont forget to provide a link to the page where it's published, preferably the official addons.mozdev.org publication and an illustrative screenshot if not provided there.

smile

PS The version linked here is a bump to make it compatible with Firefox 2.0.

Edit: The field expansion now also works on all drop down / selection boxes.... just drag the right hand bottom corner!

The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Yes, the hot tips on Firefox extensions have been steamrolling in...... so to get a move on and a bump, here the second of my favorites..... it allows e.g. for easy copy/paste of columns of individual, team or global stats data from the WCG website to a Spreadsheet for plotting and graphing:

Table2Clipboard. or secure: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1852/

What is Table2Clipboard: Mozilla applications allow to select rows and columns from a table simply pressing Control key and picking rows/columns with left mouse button.
The selection can be copied to clipboard but the original table disposition is lost making ugly results when you paste the text on datasheet applications (eg excel).
If you want to paste data in Microsoft Excel on OpenOffice Calc with correct disposition simply use Table2Clipboard
Download notes: Links are pointing to the SourceForge project site which automatically provides a list of download mirrors http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dafizilla/t2c-0.0.2.1.xpi?download.

Again, this version is compatible thru FFx 2.0 final release.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Not related to anything WCG or BOINCish, my favourite Add-On is Stumble Upon . Pure enjoyment and information!

It installs as a taskbar but can be integrated into your navigation bar saving precious screen realestate. You are able to select from your favourite topics and then press the little icon. Your Firefox then takes you to a random URL that others found interesting and you have the chance to vote for or against it. Press the icon again and you are transported to places unknown, or perhaps even WCG. smile

Awesome IMHO

Cheers. ozylynx smile

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

This thread for actually contributing extensions u think u cant do without, and given the lost in translation obviously always occurring, there are many search add-ins for Firefox 2.0 that allow typing of a piece of text into the search box and receive a crude translation back to the target language. Many can be found at http://mycroft.mozdev.org/.

For those that have discovered the in-line spell-checking of Firefox 2.0 there are now many dictionaries to be found, without which one should not be posting anymore....here a few of my popular (alphabetically):

Dutch: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3291/
English (a very long link): English (UK & US)
French: Surprise, none at present listed, but the Thunderbird version works too...just import.
German (Hoch Deutsch, Austrian and Swiss variations): German Language Dictionaries
Italian: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3053/

whilst noticing a few posts on, but not having mastered.... Russian

and piece de resistance:

Canadian English: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3653/

apologies to any other not mentioned.... all to be had at the secure https://addons.mozilla.org

enjoy

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

This makes it easy: 10 best extensions for Firefox 2

Had an 8 out of 10 before reading this selection. The Ook Video capture might become number 9 in the collection.

cheers

my vote goes to web marker a highlighter pen for the web. it just makes things easier to see.

now if they would only come up with a fast forward/rewind feature like opera has i would be a happy woman. biggrin
