Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

New addons to replace old ones (old ones no longer supported/developed and don't work with FF 3.6):

Optimize Google (replaces customize google):removes google/youtube ads, click tracking, anonymizes google cookie UID and doesn't send cookies to google analytics:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/52498

Coral IE Tab (replaces IETab): switch rendering of pages to Internet Explorer, for those handful of pages that won't work or display properly with FF. I've run across a few.

A nice tool for secure passwords, you cannot store directly anywhere. You take for example a picture and click ObPwd that will make you a password from an object. Every time you need that password, you have to have that picture or some other file/object available, and just click it.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Must have existed for longer and given the the Scribe writing add-in way off appearance should have looked ages ago... it's here by Piro who's done a few more awesome add-ons such as Tab Catalog and 2 Pane Bookmarks... it is: Split Browser aka Fox Splitter. Allows you to create additional views in one window of the same or different web pages, above, below, on the side, tiled. Now can do things that don't require to flip between tabs, print copy type or whatever, just bwilliant.

Personally tested and I'm happy to now also have those multiple WCG posts far apart in a thread or in different threads together on the display.

Firefox 3.6.4 Release Candidate Available for Download and Testing

June 1st, 2010 · Firefox

Editor’s note: On May 28, Mozilla announced the release candidate build of the next version of Firefox, which will include the Crash Protection for “out of process plugins” feature to help create a smoother, faster and more secure browsing experience for users. Early testing shows that this feature may protect users from a significant number of the browser crashes that are commonly reported to us.........

GoogleSharing ultimately aims to provide a level of anonymity that will prevent google from tracking your searches, movements, and what websites you visit.

SpeedyFox:
Firefox (and sometimes it's add-ons) uses SQLITE databases to store lots of its settings. By the time the databases grow and Firefox starts working slowly. SpeedyFox compacts those databases without loosing any data. Databases are optimized to operate faster and are decreased in size

EDIT: noticed Sek's "Vacuum Places Improved" does the same thing so ignore.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Beef TACO (Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out): I recommend replacing the bloated TACO 3.0 from Abine with the much more lightweight Beef TACO.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/180650/
Sets permanent opt-out cookies to stop behavioral advertising by 102 different advertising networks, including Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, all members of the Network Advertising Initiative, and many other companies.

Ghostery:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9609/
Ghostery sees the "invisible" web, detecting trackers, web bugs, pixels, and beacons placed on web pages by ad networks, behavioral data providers, web publishers, and other companies interested in your activity.

Ghostery allows you to block scripts from companies that you don't trust, delete local shared objects, and even block images and iframes.

Yet another privacy/security add-on:

RequestPolicy:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9727/
Be in control of which cross-site requests are allowed. Improve the privacy of your browsing by not letting other sites know your browsing habits. Secure yourself from Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) and other attacks.

Not an extension, but prevents someone else using the noxious Firesheep extension from stealing your data when at public WiFi spots:

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

HTTPS Everywhere:
https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere

Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site.

The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes these problems by rewriting all requests to these sites to HTTPS.
