BitDefender QuickScan:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bitdefender-quickscan/

This is a nice add-on. Some viruses/rootkits are good at hiding themselves from the installed anti-virus/anti-malware, and on-line scanners can find some of those infections. This one is particularly quick.

Also, not a Firefox extension, but here are removal utilities for anyone who suspects infection from the notorious TDL-4/TDSS/Alureon rootkit:

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

After [not much] testing, think I'm happy with FireGestures , a mouse gesture add-on, compatible with FireFox 6 and 7 (still not arrived in Ubuntu PPA). What it does is what the name suggests. Hold a mouse button such as right and move mouse to left and you'll be back-paged in your web-browser. Much quicker than finding that backspace button left top or call up the pop-up menu, and scroll to the back page option. Comes with many preconfigured moves (you'll have to learn and remember ;-)

P.S. FireFox 7 does indeed use considerable less memory and does not build up crazy ram occupation, without letting go.

edit: oops, Inglified the link though it does not matter what lingua, it's always English.

Firefox 8 Officially Arrives Nov. 8, But It's Available to Download Now

The new major release of Mozilla’s web browser, Firefox 8, officially launches Nov. 8. However, as usual, it’s available to download on Mozilla’s servers a bit early, meaning you can install it right now.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

And again, contrary to promise with FireFox 10 release notes, that any addon marked as compatible for 9.0 would be marked compatible with 10.0, had 4 being disabled. Mind you strictly by the wording, 3 were also no compatible with 9.0, just forced in by using a config hack in the about:config

extensions.checkCompatibility.10.0

Set to Boolean, False

Immediately you'll see the addons change into forced acceptance [use wisely and test if they really are].

Now the BOINCstats statusbar hourly update of credit cum/day is showing again... the sign that the validators are running and WCG is up (else it gives [data unavailable]). So, I'm happy again and sure as on Linux [where it was autoinstalled before official release, through the official rpm], this one feels speedier again.

The Norton Toolbar add-on, yes a dirty sneak by Symantec on W7, was already disabled, so left it at that.

P.S. and oddly, the IE Tab plus [v 1.20.13 of 1.2.2012], launching IE9 inside FF [using the IE rendering engine for quirky pages], was announced at start of install to not be compatible, yet it is not marked now as being so... real time updated during the upgrage. Still able to load some pesky secure web pages with expired code that refuse to work properly on FF. The little status bar icon shows bottom right indicating with what render engine the website is shown... this addon allowing to specify which sites should autoload in an IE tab.... nifty.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

With respect to the grand integration of all the Google affiliated services privacy policy, think it's good time to summarize actions that you can take on your Firefox browser and I've taken:

1. Unloaded Chrome out of principle, painfully the latest of my used Avast AV version 7 now pushes this browser every other day. On uninstall it opened the IE browser (not the default Firefox) to thank me for this ;P

2. The Following Add-Ons/Extensions I've put in place of FireFox (alphabetically):

A. Adblock Plus
B. BetterPrivacy
C. Caffeine Security
D. NoScript
E. Remove it Permanently (Just revived)

All verified addons and extensions found at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

Of course, FireFox is set to erase download history, browser cache, browser cookies and BetterPrivacy taking care of the extra bad stuff on exit that FireFox wont.

Where you think it is fitting use the FireFox Private Browsing Session (Ctrl+Shft+P)

Maybe you'd like to post your more expanded list, which for some surely will include the slowing down TOR anonymous proxy service as available through e.g. the FoxTor addon.

P.S. I've switched default the still ad-less search engine to http://search.softonic.com. The Google account I have, to which best not being signed in when browsing, now has me as a resident of Tuvalu... 50 centimeters above the Pacific ocean water table... the google search engine results have managed to go back to Italian regardless of the google.xml hack applied :(. The EU is investigating this but like ACTA, the outcome is likely another tempo for the bleeding nose. To little too late... you're being have long been already borged.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Having advanced to FF 12 and being able to keep almost all add-ons alive and functional [except favloc], discovered this little gem which is mimicking the Thumbnail sheet that shows in Opera when opening a new tab. "Super Start" You can set it up with as of your most used bookmakrs as you want, thumb images autogenerated AND with your own favorite background... the WCG logo for instance [for those looking over your shoulder in a lobby], or your SNURK sig, if you cant get enough of seeing that ;>)

enjoy, if you will

Firefox Open All In Tabs
You know that nifty bookmark area in Firefox? The one right above the place where all the tabs open up? Well, mine has a fair number of favorite links I can click on, but I find that most of the time I end up opening all of them in a browsing session anyways.
That’s why the Open all in tabs option is so appealing to me. Just right-click in a blank area on your bookmarks bar and click Open all in tabs.

Poof! All of you bookmarks bar links will open at once and you’re good to go!
Note: Google Chrome has a similar option (accessed the same way) called Open all bookmarks. This option, by default, opens each bookmark in its own separate tab.
