Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Besides, Firefox always warns you if there is a potential security risk. Friendly spam, wonderful spam... It's kind of like Kevin Mitnick wrote. The best kind of hacking is the human kind, aka social engineering! My vote is for Stumble Upon. P.S. I tried to download the BB Code helper you referenced, Sekerob, but Windows can't recognise the form. Is the Mozilla version functional?

1. I took Stumbleupon off as similar to some other social engineering tools like Digg and Del.icio.us starts to get highly polluted with 'commercial' links.

2. I don't understand your BBCode comment. You can select like 4 different code formats with BBcode. U need to select BBcode straight up for the WCG forum and not XHtml or Html. I use it with ffx 1.5 and 2.0.0.1. Not aware of how it behaves with branches like Netscape. I like it most because on large posts or when the buttons are off-screen u can still easily put the codes around a piece of text.

Whilst making a post, lets get overboard: Past and Go 2 . It's a simple one button solution placed next to the address bar. If u copied a URL from somewhere and u want to open that page in the browser just hit the button and it will execute. Programmable to e.g. open in a new window or new tab, or same, in foreground or background and even in one go search for a piece of text on the targeted URL.

Aloha Sekerob
Thanks for the advice. I'm so adverse to any addons that I feel like a kid in the candy store when I do find an interesting one!!

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Hi eso.... could not figure out from the linked page what it did exactly, so went to search and found a YouTube demo..... no sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7HmtnK57WI

There are several to 'pimp' - word of the week - tabs like PageStyle2Tab will make the tab adopt the style of the page when life (but options can be varied)

Here's a 4 in 1:
  • LocationBar² (highlights the main address and removes the http/http2/ftp/file part optionally and replaces the '/'). Best part is though that clicking on any of the sections of the address allows to quickly go up to e.g. the home page.
  • SpoofStick (extra antiphish showing in big red or smaller in colour of choice the real address),
  • Fission (moves the progress bar into the address bar)
  • Stop-or-Reload Button (merges the Stop and Refresh buttons to a single button changing image/function according the activity).

The address bar is yellow, thus in secure mode (overkill as there is the little lock). When regular the address bar is white.
WCG likes to show face: 4 times their countenance in a few square inches of screen.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

It was so quite on the forum, HCMD racing along yesterday with 63 CPU years and a certain team speaking 'Frog' racing up into the top 50 without much resistance, that i visited the Firefox Extensions compendium again to see for and indeed finding the missing fully flexed Dictionnaire MySpell en Français (réforme 1990)...... Come on guys, fire away and You'll get replied in fully spellchecked verbosity kiss

Stay tuned for many more great ones.... there are 67 active add-ons attached to my browser and all from https://addons.mozilla.org... fully audited.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

I find the following ESSENTIAL:

FireFTP
Download Statusbar
Fasterfox
IE Tab (for those stubborn pages)
Tabbrowser Preferences
AdBlock Plus

I USED to use SpoofStick, but FF seems to catch these sites more often that not.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

being that i have 11 pc's in 3 rooms on 2 floors shock foxmarks looks interesting. i'm not thrilled with the every 5 minute or hour syncronization, i think once a day would be enough. humph!

jury's still out on this one. worried

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Hi vavega, been using Foxmarks for a month or more and been updated a few times. The auto-synch can be switched off! The developer is going to include in future versions also options to exclude certain links/bookmarks that one does not want to sit on their servers. Good is, that you can choose a secure HTTPS connection for replication and it will synchronize no later than when exiting browser. And finally your set is password protected on their server, while running over the said HTTPS. Anyway, all the machines are synched, and if visiting elsewhere, just create a user profile on the host and replicate and delete when done.

My addition for the day: Back To Top but it also jumps to the bottom of that very long page you are tired of scrolling to. Sits in status-bar, but extra buttons can also be added top the top....wherever the mouse is closest too. Mouse actions can be defined.

Others are circled and covered in previous editions or will be discussed in future posts:
Foxytunes , to control your media player in-browser
Stylish , to modify look and feel of particular webpages or sites, removing add junk e.g.
NoScript , to protect against auto execution of Javascript, Flash or other scripting.
BOINCstats , showing the credits for any project you configure it to see.
Autocopy , putting the selected text automatically on the clipboard for pasting elsewhere.

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

spikey_richie mentioned it already in his "must have" short list: IE TAB. It effectively starts web pages you tell it to start in a tab of Firefox, but using the IE rendering engine. For instance run the monthly Windows / Office updates inside Firefox or simply some website which plainly will work if "MS compliant" only.
Get the full description here: http://ietab.mozdev.org/

Get the secure download here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

enjoy

(WCG tipped that the visitors split is about 50/50 of Firefox v IE users for either of these 2 web browser..... MS beware).
