Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

When i upgraded to FF 2.0 i was disapointed that i could not go to Firefox by clicking the "throbber" button anymore.
they changed it to a right click of toolbars options and nothing with a left click.

and now i was just pointed to this nifty little item :
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2821/

an extension that lets you set 4 bookmarks into the "throbber" button !

i was thinking if you new a very loading page it could even be a kind of "boss" button................

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

As promised to keithhenry, the special forum / post add-in for Firefox is BBCode. When writing and right clicking in the text area, u can bring up a menu listing all commonly known codes to use like bolding, quoting, listing, coloring plus a list of special characters u can't seem to find on your keyboard:

There are 2 versions, BBcode straight up (above) http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=380&hl=bbcode and BBcode Extra: http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=689&hl=bbcode

the official addons.mozdev.org has a slightly outdated version:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/128/
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/491/

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

2 months since someone offered up a hot extension for Firefox, so here one that is a Rip if you will from Opera. The Password Wand sits in the status bar and lights up if a stored name and password is found for a page and lists them out if more names are stored. Better protection against phishing.
Secure Login (SecureLogin) 0.1.1, A login ...pera's Wand login

http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=5963

A login extension similar to Opera's Wand login.

One thing I really missed from Opera was the "Wand Login" feature, which enables you to login with one click.

Firefox already has a built-in password manager, but lacks the One-Click-Login feature. Instead, it fills form fields for known logins, which can lead to a possible security leak:
Firefox password manager makes life easier for phishers.

Therefore, I created my first Firefox extension and added something similar to Opera's Wand Login. It uses the built-in password manager. The prefilling of login forms is disabled upon installation. Instead, you are now able to login with one click. To do this, add the Secure Login toolbar button to your toolbar, or use the provided status bar icon.

If several logins or several login forms exist, you are prompted for a selection.

SecureLogin Keyboard-Shortcut: ALT+1

Localizations: de-DE, en-US

Note: I already uploaded it to addons.mozilla.org, but currently await the Review.

NoScript

NoScript, winner of the "2006 PC World World Class Award", provides extra protection to your Firefox.
This extension allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice, e.g. your home-banking web site.
Such a preemptive approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even unknown!) with no loss of functionality...
Experts do agree: Firefox is really safer with NoScript ;-)

Re: The FireFox Add-On Extension Thread

Mozilla just reorganized the official Addons website, the place that actually does QA and makes sure nothing untoward slips into an extension. With a few hundred left, the husks split from the corn, a few more gems surfaced and a few more became more prominent:

  • A few weeks ago mentioned the emulation of the Opera 'Wand' for Firefox. Well storing passwords and ID's needs to be done selectively and in fact, if it's anything related to real sensitive information like banking and webmail, don't store them at all. Tell it ones not to do that for a particular URL and it will never be asked again and by automation, anything that comes over secure comms is not even asked.... it's simply Not Done. Should u though decide to use the wand feature for fora or loose websites that insist on registering, use the "Master Password TimeOut " add-in. U can program it to force u to log into Firefox again after x minutes idle and even elect to log out hitting a toolbar icon. It did not stay in the top few hundred, so the reference is to the home page of the author.

  • . The menu up top takes lots of space so several solutions had been on offer to consolidate whole or part. This latest addition is very smooth and is called "Personal Menu" which very easily allows the addition of any menu item in any order u want on a single menu represented by just a clear icon on the menu bar. If adding the other menu headers, hovering over them will fold them out and list those items that u did not move onto the consilidated listing.

  • To top it off for this edition, added the Smart Bookmarks Bar . All Folder and Bookmarks are reduced to just the Icon. Hover over the icon and the icon label folds out and combined with "Tippy " tells u all u need to know. Unfortunately, the folders on the bookmark bar also loose their labels. Still no option is there to change the folder symbol to something recognizable. Memorize or hover....... Does someone know how to change individual folder icons?

The screenprint above 'Reveals' ** a few more add-ons. Go visit them and see if they fit your needs. All are personally tested and stable on FFx 2.0.0.1

    enjoy.

** Includes a magnifier of the area where the cursor is and activated by tripple click of left mouse button and a thumbnail list of all the tabs' pages open during the session.

It would be irresponsible to mention all these neat gizmos and add-ons without also mentioning the potential security risks.

Besides, Firefox always warns you if there is a potential security risk. Friendly spam, wonderful spam... It's kind of like Kevin Mitnick wrote. The best kind of hacking is the human kind, aka social engineering! My vote is for Stumble Upon. P.S. I tried to download the BB Code helper you referenced, Sekerob, but Windows can't recognise the form. Is the Mozilla version functional?
