Bloody heck, can you slow down a little bit? Your going to be coming up behind us soon! ... snip Heh, heh. I can just imagine how much your team is sweating right now. Tonight we gained another 15,730 points on you, but at that rate it will still take another 230 days for us to pass you -- and your team had only an 11 day head start. ![]() Heck, once we make the Top-100, I'll be happy with just a very slow drift toward the Top-50 (which we will eventually make), and focus my efforts on bigger things that benefit WCG moreso than our HomeBrewers team -- like Project 2plus2is4 and Project Cross-Links, both of which have been met with a very luke warm response by nearly everyone here (actually, a 'chilled' response would be more accurate). Whatever! I'm going to press on, even by myself if necessary.Anyway, for a breath of fresh air, my next post or two will pertain to homebrewing, but I don't have time to post about that right now. Thanks for visiting us, V_R. Cheers. Bill Velek [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 28, 2006 3:53:20 AM] |

WCG is important to us, as we're still here, but life does take more time away than we'd all like. We aren't "not reacting", we are contemplating how best to promote your initiative within our own lives, which may not be that obvious at first. Outside of an immediate influence group (family, mostly), telling even "like-minded" adults about social responsibility in raising their children is a potentially touchy subject, as most people consider it "their private business" and might resent the implication that they aren't doing a good enough job. It requires approaching educators and schools, children's book authors and pediatricians, toy stores and hobby shops. Doing so "cold" is a daunting prospect. Perhaps you might bend some brain cells to thinking of targets and approaches to help promotion? Cheers FB |

Actually, Fred, I didn't mean to place that post here in our team thread and make it appear that I was referring specifically or solely to HomeBrewers. When I complained that this project is receiving a chilled response, it was because I have posted two other threads about this in which I have been inviting and urging the ENTIRE community here at WCG, including teams besides the HomeBrewers, to get behind this project in some way. One thread is in the chat room and the other thread is here in the team room since I felt that this is important enough to warrant a non-team post, and except for JUST THREE PEOPLE who have replied, there has been dead silence. And that's even after a few 'bumps' back to top of the list. I even went so far as to make my site 'team neutral', i.e., neither linking nor referring to ANY team, and I made a specific announcement of that fact, and I still can't get anyone interested.
Now, I really do think, in my humble opinion, that I have identified very significant problems for recruitment for ALL grid projects -- public apathy, ignorance, and mistrust -- and I've offered what I believe is an excellent and easily accomplished solution -- educating our children about this through our schools, ... yet practically no one else seems to think that this is a worthwhile endeavor. What I had hoped to see was some responses like: "I'll mention this on our team thread", or "I'll add a link to my personal website", or "I'll add a link to my sig file", or "I'll drop a note to my elected official" (I've even made it easy by providing a sample message), or ... that folks are at least planning to do SOMETHING to help this project succeed. My only conclusion is that they are not bothering to even take a couple of minutes to look at my '2plus2is4' website, or else they just don't think it is worthwhile. Well, we've got to try something, and if this effort is successful, we should see a HUGE increase in the number of crunchers over the next few years -- perhaps far more successful than any other recruiting campaign. But it seems that most people are content to compare stats, issue certificates, pat one another on the back, make silly posts, or bitch, argue, and fight with one another. And in the process, something as important as this project quickly drops down the list because of many petty things, including immature flames wars. This is very frustrating. Well, enough with my venting. You asked: Perhaps you might bend some brain cells to thinking of targets and approaches to help promotion? Well, besides the above suggestions (team threads, sig files, etc.), we could target candidates when they contact us for their vote (that's pretty easy) asking them to visit 2plus2is4.com, ... or if we have kids in a computer class in school, we could mention it to their teachers. It doesn't really take "bending brain cells" to recognize opportunities to promote this. Heck, if the Jehovah's Witnesses come to your door, tell them that a good Christian thing to do would be to donate wasted computer power for humanity, and they can learn more about it through 2plus2is4. I'm going to post something like this on my other two threads. Maybe I can stir this up a bit. Maybe this will turn into a flame war and the project will get more exposure that way. ![]() Cheers. Introducing the first episode of 'Beer Trek'.
----------------------------------------WARNING, Captain Fred. The Klingon ship 'Andrax' is catching up to us. Mr. Sulu, the Captain is in the head ... uhhh ... taking a ... uhh ... never mind. There's no time to wait for him. Beam me up, Scotty, and give us 110% on the warp drives -- and I don't care if the ship does blow up. ![]() Load Photon (beer can) Torpedos and fire (video is HERE). We'll blow the 'Andrax' up like a ripe melon. ![]() And the video will also show the "China" Team what we have planned for them; watch the China explode! Cheers. We're now 106, but Team Andrax is doing so well that if they keep up their present pace, they are sure to pass us in 4 days or so. But the good news is that we should still make it to the Top-100 by our 1st birthday, which has been our goal for several months now.
Good crunching, team. Cheers. Bill Velek |
