Re: Eat, Drink, and be Crunching (Team HomeBrewers Welcomes You)

I read this and thought to myself...it's time to get this team into the top 100 and maybe bring that smile back to billvelek's face.

-Brink
biggrin We are not there yet, but you've already brought a BIG smile to this ugly mug of mine. laughing I checked our stats before reading your post, and when I saw the huge spike, I couldn't believe it. I thought that maybe FredB had returned from out of country and got things running right again, but even that wouldn't seem to explain the huge jump over the highest score we've ever had. So we're now #103 because of you, Brink; THANK YOU!

By the way, re your comment about putting a smile back on my face, I hope I hadn't come across as all that disappointed that we didn't reach our goal; I'm competitive and like to reach goals, but I'm not freaky about it. cool My comments that suggested I might not be around here in the forums much longer had nothing to do with our HomeBrewers team performance, but rather with two other factors: my distain for some of the recent unpleasant exchanges in other threads, and, more importantly, my need to divide my points and share with other projects via BOINC and then participate in those forums. I simply don't have enough time to be very active in a number of places, and will therefore be visiting here less frequently. But I WILL be back from time to time, and I WILL remain a part of the HomeBrewers team. Now, you might ask why I feel the need to join other projects and their forums. Well, I need to promote 2plus2is4 as widely as possible. If any of you have not yet checked out my project, please do so.

Thanks again, Brink, and everyone else.

Cheers.

I like to spread my stats around to other teams I like. I like this this one, even though I'm not a regular brewer of "the nectar of the gods".
Actually I have been torn lately between "good" beer and "good" whiskey (scotch and bourbon). It's a good kind of battle. biggrin
Anyway, I was thinking of putting your 2plus2is4 url at the end of my work signature. Would you be apposed to that ?
Time to go out and maybe work in the garage or yard. It's 55 degrees outside and these high temps are getting hard to come by this late in the season here in Minnesota.

WOW!

That is big addition of points to our team Brink, and us brewers are most appreciative of your contribution.

I will be raising a glass or two tonight in your honour.

Of course, we know that the points have been contributed to the project anyway, which is the most important thing, but thanks for pointing them in our direction for a while.

Brink - when I saw the points today I thought maybe I had sipped the wrong brew or something. Actually, Dave (the brewer) and I managed to talk a friend into joining the group 2 days ago... he has been known to have a few idle machines scattered around his house. Anyway, after I saw the points this morning (and after I got off the floor and back in my chair) I began to think that maybe he had more than a few! Now I see you are the brewmeister that made this happen. Many thanks!

Welcome (also from Minnesota! Brink) to our two newest members:

baskint

and

brinktastee

I see that brinktastee has been welcomed a few times already! servowriter and I also convinced baskint to join and we are working on another friend. I saw both the new members before any points were posted (didn't have time to post that day) and figured Brink would be making an impact!

Just to show that everyone's points count when we have been down in the 35K per day range, servowriter and I were feeling pretty good about our 8K and 6K, respectively, days.

Thanks to all members for their contributions!

Dave

Re: Eat, Drink, and be Crunching (Team HomeBrewers Welcomes You)

....so I dumped the fresh batches in on top of the yeast patties -- and then added the starter, too, since I had already made it. I normally wouldn't use a starter if using a patty. What an explosive fermentation I'm having now. Everything was bubbling nicely and then the next thing I knew I was having to clean krauesen off of the ceiling where one carboy blew the air lock off. Both carboys are now sitting in pans with foam cascading down the sides. I just hope I don't lose too much beer. crying
[snip]

Bill,
I have done that too a few times which is the reason I now have about a 14" plastic heavy plant saucer that goes under the fermenter during the primary every time I start a batch. I have a great picture posted on my fridge with about a six inch tower of foam coming out of the neck of a carboy from a few years ago. Never really had the problem with lagers though because of the colder temps.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving!

Dave

Re: Eat, Drink, and be Crunching (Team HomeBrewers Welcomes You)

Unfortunately, poor Fred ran into some problems at a time when he couldn't do anything about it, and he has expressed much regret over that. Well, Fred, don't worry about it, friend, because things happen, and you have pulled far more than your weight.
...
(For what it's worth to the WCG, I nominate Dave if Fred can't be contacted and the admins deem the position vacant.)

Thanks Bill, and happy Thanksgiving to all our US members.

I am back in the country, in town, and at home, and working on getting back up to speed. I have put 5 machines on line so far, and hope to have more this weekend, and the remainder by next week sometime. Unfortunately my points standings do not yet reflect the additional computing power, but that should continue to improve.

After that, I will be working on recruiting materials for the Homebrewers team. I would like to know how many members (or guests, heh) would be willing to take posters, fold-ups, etc to their local brew outlets in person. This is probably our highest chance of recruitment, as would be brew clubs in those towns lucky enough to have them.

I would like an honest answer, as this will determine the amount of effort I put into slick "marketing" items instead of mass-exposure mailings.

Let me know please.

Thanks again to everyone for their contributions, and support.

Thanks Brink, your jumping in to help was a lifesaver. I do hope you decide to stick around.

Thanks Dave, it's good to be here.
So your from Minnesota too eh?

Well, since your a brewer...have you tried some of the Surly beer from MN's newest micro brew? Especially the Bourbon-Bender? (only available in kegs) Oh!!! good stuff.
He uses old bourbon casts somehow in the process and the end result is truly fantastic IMHO.

Just hanging out waiting for the stats to change. Should be interesting to see if we gain some rank today. I'm hoping we jump up a couple spots at least by Sunday. We will see....
