Been pretty quiet with the Homebrew Crew. Since you guys have a Dave the Brewer somewhere in Minnesota, I thought you might like this story. Check out the name of the author.http://www.twincities.com/ci_9368183?nclick_check=1

Hi, Sgt. Joe. Thanks for the visit and the link. In case anyone else has trouble with that link (I did with both Netscape and IE), if you play with it enough (at least in IE), you'll eventually get it to work.
I've read that report before, and had already added a comment. No time to elaborate on much right now because I just stopped to check my email before driving over to my sons house to brew a couple of batches; I'm taking my gear and ingredients over there to teach him and his friends, so I'm on a very important mission. Cheers. |

More than likely, 'SETI.Germany' will pass us tonight, or at the latest, tomorrow night, which will drop us into 97th place. It will be at least 10 days, and probably more like 13 or 14 days before we can pass 'Team Japan HIV' to regain #96, but there are no teams close enough and gaining fast enough to overtake us for some time yet. The closest is a new team which has been sneaking up because I wasn't tracking it -- 'BOINC@Poland'; they are in #102 place, and average over 200k per day, which is about 80k/day more than we seem to be averaging, but that gives us about a 70 day lead on them. Unfortunately, at current rates, we will still not pass another team during that time, so we will slip back down to #97.
BUT OUR TEAM IS HANGING IN THERE, SLUGGING IT OUT, ... and I really appreciate everyone's support. And who knows ... maybe we'll pick up a few more members. Everyone counts, and our recent new members are helping us make a fight of this. Thanks. On a homebrewer note, I went to my son's house on Saturday and we brewed an IPA and an oatmeal stout. Had a few minor glitches, but I really think these are going to be great beers. Cheers. |

Hi guys,
Sorry it's been a while (again) between trips and getting contractors to quote work, half the year is gone already... I'm glad to see Dave and Bill still hanging in there on the forum, and with the team. No, we don't give up, unlike most of the world around us, we believe in the cause, so here we are. On my own front, my primary home PC got an attitude (I can't plug anything USB into it without having it freeze up and require a power off), so it's an excuse for more shuffling around. I've finally had to get the dual core Athlon 5000+ powered up and running, and I got the remainder of the parts for a 2.66 GHz core2 quad (with an extra large cooling fan), which I probably won't have time to build before I leave town again at the end of this week - hopefully everything stays running while I'm gone. Anyway, I don't generally pat myself on the back, but by the time you read this, I will have put over 20 million points into WCG - 47,000+ results, and over 41 years of computing. That's a lot of heat! Regardless of the size of your contribution, my hat's off to you - that's why we are a grid, why we all compute toward the same goal, because together we get there faster. Your time, your effort help all of us. Cheers, Fred B |

Hi, Fred. Good to hear from you again. I figured that you were probably out of town again on business. No worries though; we're taking care of business for you.
I don't suppose you've had any time for any homebrewing, either. Cheers. |

Greetings, all. We are just about 31k behind 'Team Japan HIV', which is now generating less than 40k/day while Homebrewers is consistently generating over 100k/day, so we should definitely pass them tonight to move up to 96th place again. Keep up the good work, and thanks for your commitment to our team and your generosity.
In the beer world, I have two carboys that finished fermenting by last Saturday, so they are in the conditioning stage right now; I've decided not to bother racking them to secondary and will just bottle the weekend after next. They have very nice color -- an IPA and an Oatmeal Stout. I have done a bit of tweaking on my brewing portal , which is still mainly my 'Grow-Hops' portal but it mentions the rest of my sites including my page for our Homebrewers Team. Please check it out when you have the time. Thanks. Cheers. |

Captain Fred, I included you in congratulations that I extended in this thread:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=20865 -- a 'MyOnlineTeam' thread congratulating a member for passing 20,000,000 points, which you have also done. I just didn't want them to think that they are the only team with great members. Thanks again, Fred, for all you have done for the Homebrewers and the World Community Grid, but most of all for what you have done for humanity. I'm starting some preps for a homebrewing session this Saturday. I've decided to try sanitizing the bottles now and covering each with some aluminum foil because I'll be bottling four cases and hope to brew two different batches, so there will be a lot of work to do. Our team is still closing in on 'Combined Torrent Communities', and I think we will manage to pass them before being passed, to move us up to no. 95. We're really putting up a good fight. Everyone, please keep up the good work, and thanks for your contributions. Cheers. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 18, 2008 7:06:06 PM] |

We dropped to 95th place ... I guess a few days ago ... and I launched a new recruitment drive among homebrew groups and forums yesterday afternoon; so far it looks like we've gained six new members. WELCOME. If you ever have any questions about crunching for the WCG, please feel free to post them here or to contact me personally -- billvelek AT alltel DOT net. Cheers. Bill Velek WOW! I just looked at the team member listing again and by my count there were 10 people who joined after your mid-May recruitment. Best jump yet. Welcome to all of the new members and hello to Fred. I could only read the comments now since the story has been archived, but I was able to see the author's name. No farm living for me now or in the future (unless the market does a whole lot better, then it would more likely be lake living )Dave |
