My output was way down for about 10 days.
---------------------------------------- While I was on vacation last week the lab where my 4 dual core systems are was shutdown for a move. Just got all four back up yesterday afternoon. I went down to 3K per day from around 18K. Now things should get better. Dave |

Hi, Dave. Hope your vacation was great. I can notice the sizeable jump in our points for the past several days since you've come back, so you are making a big difference.
----------------------------------------I think I'll plan a big recruitment push on or about May 21st, which is our semi-annual anniversary (half-way between November 21st when we were formed). That will also coincide with the one-year anniversary for my formation of Grow-Hops, which as of this moment has 1,792 members, with more than half of them joining in just the past 60 days. Good luck to all with crunching, brewing, growing hops, etc. Cheers. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 3, 2008 7:17:35 PM] |

I thought I had things under control, but few folks check the stats on teams behind them very often, so I guess it's been two or three weeks since I really took a look back, and have just been monitoring those teams which have been slowly gaining on us from time to time. However, Seti.Germany is one of those teams that can streak in from deep space and hit you before you know it ... so I refer to them as "comets". Seti.Germany is now in 100th place, but for all the speed it had in getting here, it has slowed down enough that I predict that it will still take a month for it to overtake us, which should be enough time for us to take 'Leadmar (Russia)' first. Leadmar is now ahead by only 916,061 points, and we should pass them in about two week! Haleluia!!!
As for 'Seti.Germany', we have a lead on them of 2,982,879 points, and based upon the average points generated over the past seven days for our two teams, it is now gaining on us at the rate of 98,521 points/day, so it should pass us in 31 days. But what is truly amazing is how fast it caught up to us without our knowing about it; three weeks ago, its average of daily points was 861,444!!!! My hat is definitely off to that team; fantastic, and great effort for humanity!!! But I can only imagine that a big part of their team has probably moved on to another project now, so maybe they'll cool off even more and never pass us. I like to keep our lead.I have replaced 'Winona', which is no serious threat, with 'Seti.Germany' in our first monitoring screen: they are now as follows: http://tinyurl.com/3a8wuc http://tinyurl.com/2ok55n http://tinyurl.com/2w45lf http://tinyurl.com/2thx4r Keep on crunching. Our team is still gaining quickly on 'Leadmar (Russia)', so let's retake position #95 and put us back into the top one-HALF percent. Cheers. |

Seti.Germany is now in 99th place and about 45 days behind us (approx.).
----------------------------------------We should catch Leadmar ( Russia ) in 5 or 6 days to recapture 95th place. We should ALSO catch MySaoirse in about 12 days to move us up to 94th; this is great news because it gives us a net gain of one even after we are passed by Seti.Germany, and helps prolong our hold in the Top-100. Moreover, looking ahead, we have gained substantially on other teams that we have been slowly gaining on; while they are still very far ahead of us, I believe that we should overtake some ... perhaps all ... of them before dropping out of the Top-100, and each time we pass one it gives us some renewed life. I therefore think it is very possible that we can stay in the Top-100 at least through the end of the year unless we are surprised. Here is a table of those teams ahead of us that we are gaining on: http://tinyurl.com/6dlb94 Team Japan HIV is ahead by 4,749,301 points, but we are gaining on them by over 60k per day, so if we both continue at this rate, we should catch them in about 80 days. Sweden is ahead by 5,204,733 points, but we are gaining on them by about 36k per day, so it will take us about 145 days to pass them. IBM UK is _WAY_ ahead of us by 8,952,046 points, but we're gaining about 43k/day and could catch them in about 208 days -- a long time but still before the end of the year. IBM Americas has an even larger lead of 11,373,499 points, but we are gaining on them much faster -- about 67k/day -- so we could catch them in about 170 days. IBM Toronto Software Lab has a lead of 12,798,621 points, and we are gaining at the rate of about 77k/day and could pass them in 166 days. 'on demand community Deutschland' team is ahead by 14,146,624, but we're gaining by about 55k/day, so it will take us about 257 days to catch them, so we can still succeed before New Years. MC IT Team isn't producing anything to speak of, so we should pass them in about 163 days. There might be a few more that we'll eventually pass, but I'm not going to look any further ahead at this time. The point is that I've just listed nine teams that we should pass before the end of the year, and with the exception of Seti.Germany, the other teams that were slowly gaining on us won't pass us anytime soon due to our recent jump in daily points. Now, if we could just manage to recruit more members, we could probably ensure our remaining in the Top-100 for perhaps even another year. We're doing GREAT!!! Congratulations. Here are some other table to watch: http://tinyurl.com/6749kz http://tinyurl.com/5o75k3 http://tinyurl.com/2w45lf http://tinyurl.com/2thx4r Thanks to our entire team for their dedication. Cheers. We are now in 95th ... and gaining.
Here are the tables to watch: http://tinyurl.com/5th75y http://tinyurl.com/5fjlqa http://tinyurl.com/6lv2v5 http://tinyurl.com/58djd6 http://tinyurl.com/69thnc Thanks to our all for their contributions. On a different subject -- of interests to brewers but particularly to hop growers -- there are some major advancements in our Grow-Hops group. One of our members registered the domain, several have offered free servers to host a website, including software to develope a HopWiki, and other recent developments. We have surpassed 1,900 members, too. If interested, visit our original Yahoo website until we get settled in -- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Grow-Hops Cheers. Bill Velek |

We are now in 94th; great job, Homebrewers. ... Cheers. Hi Bill, I noticed on my RSS feed that we had made #94 again the other day! Now I have to redo my work PC since I just got a new one and still don't have Firefox installed (waiting for FF3 although at the current pace it may never be released). Good news is that my new PC is a Core 2 Duo instead of a Pentium M! That will help me gain some more ground on Servowriter in our friendly competition. On the brewing front I have a small batch of hard cider going since I ran out a few weeks back, quick and easy to make, and ohh too easy to drink! Probably will all disappear in a couple of weekends when my wife's sisters are in town (I did actually make it for them). Dave |

Hi, Dave. Good to hear from you. Yes, we made it back to 94th place and have been holding it, but at the rate that SETI.Germany has been gaining on us, we probably won't be able to hold it for much more than about three more weeks. Unfortunately, it's going to take about two months for us to pass 'Team Japan HIV' which is the closes team that we're gaining on, and the rest are way out in the future. So we need to enjoy 94th while we can.
What both amazes and disappoints me is that my recent recruitment efforts have produced practically no results. I don't know if I've just already gathered just about everyone who is willing to do this, and therefore there are only a few newbies who haven't heard the message, or what the problem is. Now, about brewing. For one reason or another, I haven't been able to find the time to brew for about 6 weeks. This is the longest I've gone in a LONG time, and I'm now completely out of homebrew. I'm so far behind on other things that I need to get done that it's a matter of always choosing between things on the weekend. I planned to brew yesterday if it rained -- and we've gotten PLENTY of rain this spring here in Arkansas -- but since it was a sunny day, I finally cut down the pecan tree which is in the way of my expansion of my hop yard. Now I can put up my third trellis in anticipation of some late rhizomes that are being sent to me. I currently have 20 plants -- 10 Fuggles, 7 Centennial, and 3 Magnum -- and I'm supposed to be getting 3 Santiam and 3 Willamette, and I hope a few Cascade, too. My Grow-Hops group now has more than 2,000 members. Got to go now; lots of stuff to do. Cheers. Bill Velek |

We dropped to 95th place ... I guess a few days ago ... and I launched a new recruitment drive among homebrew groups and forums yesterday afternoon; so far it looks like we've gained six new members. WELCOME. If you ever have any questions about crunching for the WCG, please feel free to post them here or to contact me personally -- billvelek AT alltel DOT net.
Cheers. Bill Velek |
