95th Hi, Brink. And we should then make it to 92nd come Tuesday night, and then conceivably we could make it to 91st by Friday night. You are really helping us climb in stats. Thanks a lot to you and to everyone else on the team. Looks like we will be 94th come Monday night! -Brink Cheers. Bill Velek EDIT: P.S. Are there any software setting that I need to make? Top 90 by Xmas???? Good morning, Rob, and the rest of the team. I'll predict that we will make it to the Top-90 by Christmas Eve, and should make it to #89 by Christmas night. Unfortunately things slow down so much after that that I think we will make it to only #88 by New Years Eve. But the higher the team rises, the stiffer the competition is that is ahead of us, so we can't expect big gains very quickly from now on. This has still been an outstanding accomplishment for our team; thank you, everyone.Cheers. |

While I am pleased with our team's performance -- we are now ranked 93rd and climbing -- I received a disappointing email today. Much of the time I will joke around, and sometimes talk about my hobby -- brewing beer -- but sometimes we need to get serious, because this is very serious work that we are doing. I sincerely thank everyone for the contributions that they have made to this important work. What I am seriously referring to now is the post that I just made in the chat room: "Some misinformation about WCG and the setback it could cause". Please read that, and if you have any advice that could help, it will be appreciated.
Now I'm having a homebrew to settle my stomach -- a brown "ale" for what "ails" me. Cheers. |

Thursday afternnon a tree-trimmer knocked a power line down next door, and the transformer popped. When the power was restored, everything worked except my computer. I replaced the surge suppressor hoping that that was all that happened, but the computer still was not working right -- the power light would come on but the computer would not start up, and I was getting clicking sounds on my speaker. I bought a new computer yesterday to replace it; the bonus will be much greater crunching power for the WCG and our team. It isn't a dual core, but it does have an AMD Athlon 64 processor 3800+ and 1024MB ram, and the front side bus runs at something like 2000 -- whatever that means.
Anyway, I bought a new surge suppressor, too, and when I hooked it up I decided to plug my old computer in just to double-check -- and it started up all the way to it's usual configuration. I thought "Great", but I'd keep the new one, too, but when I tried to shut down the old one to move them around, the same problem cropped up -- the power light would not go out and the speakers were clicking, and then it wouldn't start up again -- so I guess something was damaged. The bottom line is that I'm hoping I can get it to start up one more time so that I can transfer files to my new computer rather than having to switch drives around, etc. I can use a flash-drive, but that still seems like it will be tedious and time consuming. Can I just connect a network cable straight from one computer to the other? ... or do I need a null modem? I do have my wireless router which has spare outlets on the back; can I use it as a hub? Don't know much about this stuff, and don't want to mess anything up. Thanks for any advice. Cheers. Bill Velek |

Hello all,
I'm having a bad weekend also. I had to have my wife drive me to the emergency room very early this morning because I could not breath. Been feeling a little under the weather. They told me I have pneumonia, plus I'm asthmatic. Not having a lot of fun today... -Brink |

Bill Velek Bill, The best option is probably to use a network connection (through your router) and the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" in Windows XP. It is found under: All Programs -- Accessories -- System Tools . The help options can help you to get the connection working between computers. You run the wizard on the new system and it will help you get the files, etc. transfered over to the new one. Dave |

Going back to work tomorrow. I'm out of sick time and I hate using vacation days for sick days.
So much for being a salaried exempt employee.Well were 89th and if the teddy bears don't pass us tomorrow we should be 88th by Thursday night. -Brink |
