Re: Losing the DC faith.

We as DC participants still are willing to spend electricity for ambitions as great as SETI@home - either find nothing, or change humanity forever. But, yep, Arecibo Radio Telescope is gone, then SETI@home is gone, then IBM abandoned WCG. And now it is like US taxpayers should pay nobody but Elon and Trump. Look how European DC projects thrive while American ones are shutting down!

Re: Losing the DC faith.

I assume IBM's abandonment of WCG is likely due to corporate greed than anything [externally] partisan or political. Seeing as none of the IBM WCG staffers have posted on this forum, it may have been cold-hearted. (I wondered if IBM re-located them to other departments internally of their choosing or laid them off without warning, but I've heard so many times of big corporations really screwing over employees that nothing would surprise me.)

Folding@home's website has a ton of corporate sponsors at the bottom. It's been that way for many years. This tells me that WCG has simply not been aggressive enough in soliciting corporate sponsorships, not because the funding just isn't there.

WCG really needs a marketing and major gifts full-time professional to do this. I worked at a couple university-based alumni associations, and entire teams of people specialized in asking for big donations.

Re: Losing the DC faith.

Hello I must be forgetting but could you give a link to the page in which feeder status is shown? Since there is no traditional Server Status page

I'd love to know about this as well. Any type of server status would be very much appreciated.
WCG does not have a server status page, and has never had one.
One of the crunchers on WCG (Unixchick) maintains a kind of unofficial status page. The latest version of this is here. Note that, due to limitations with the Forum software, Unixchick sometimes has to create a new thread with this information in it. So the version I have linked will not always be the latest thread. Note also that the figures given for work units in the last 24 hours are based on WUProp, so do not reflect actual totals, but give a general idea of activity.
Cheers,
Mark

Thumbs up to Unixchick for maintaining what should be on the main page. Can't imagine that it can be that difficult for them to do. Rosetta has one and its really simple and nice and answer's a lot of questions.
