Re: Downtime warning

BOINC db and feeder should be back up now, temporary shortage of MCM1 workunits for the rest of the night is likely as I am assessing the impact that the crash and outage had.

It seems by now (8pm PST) WUs are able to upload and report and new WUs are being downloaded again...

A new downtime, again...
I'm tired of the lack of communication!

There is no lack of communication, you just have to check all active threads

Would disagree. The fact that you have to hunt through multiple threads here to find out what's going on is not "communication." I read the forum listed, and it takes reading 10 post to understand what's going on in the context. Proper communication is a summary of the issue, what's being done to fix it, and a timeline. Assuming that everyone's going to check every thread for the answer is lazy.

Not to mention, no timeline was given.

Re: Downtime warning

Regarding communication and timelines, sometimes one just can't answer with certainty as outside influences (such as likely but unpredictable hardware failures) can completely wreck planned actions! And the reaction of some users here when a tentative deadline has been missed are not exactly encouraging :-(

Also, don't forget that "WCG Tech Team" is effectively one person! One thing I used to hate as a [frequent] "team of one" before I retired was the people who seemed to think it was more important for me to spend hours communicating with them about why there was a problem and when I'd have it fixed instead of getting on with fixing it! That was quite a few years ago, so the demands were emails and [intrusive] phone calls that deliberately bypassed our Help Desk...

The use of the forum structure here doesn't always lend itself to well-managed communication anyway -- the same issue can end up reported in multiple places, and unless/until they start to use a dual-thread strategy (one locked, one open, akin to the way Beta Tests used to be "managed") or something similar for maintenance-related messages any response may not always be where a random user might expect to find it.

That's why one of the users started the Project Status thread(s) in the Chat Room as a place to try to pull together scattered information! Without Server Status pages for [partial] outage information, and the haphazard reporting of issues by users, it was worth a try :-)

Just an opinion, of course...

Cheers - Al.

Re: Downtime warning

Thank you, Al. I know it can be frustrating.
I find the "Operational Status" page at https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/wcg.html to be helpful.
I also just found the Chat Room at https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/listthreads?forum=41
