The overview page still needs to be updated from "intermittent" to "Completed".

The overview page still needs to be updated from "intermittent" to "Completed". Certainly, and indeed, there are some more places that need to be updated. To name a few ... Maybe that last named table is a good starting point. Adri |

I hope we get science updates soon on each of these projects.

Two projects are ending, not with a bang, but with a whimper.
----------------------------------------Announcement released late at night while a majority of readers are on holiday. In journalism, this is called a 'news dump.' --------------------------------------------------------- The lab focusing on childhood cancers is now part of a $25 million USD project to test the compounds we've identified years ago, founded this year with a new name. I've checked the website and there's no mention of WCG or the thousands of citizen scientists - there's a new donors list with big institutions, like MIT and the government of France. If all goes well, these institutions will get full credit, and we get a 'final update' that our contributions have inspired young people to get into science. I'm glad they have a stable funding source, but a majority of their resources came from us. (Think of the value of our donation as the averted cost of renting 57,048 core-years, in 2017, from for-profit servers). Our donations are bearing fruit, and we deserve just as much credit and just as many updates as the secondary donors. ----------------------------------------------------------- As for the Croft lab, focusing on the fatty layer that protects tuberculosis from normal medicines, wants to use Artificial intelligence to handle the last decade of results but after a decade they don't have a person assigned to handle that. They're promising future updates, but WCG calls it their final update. It's pretty clear why - if the scientists who designed the calculations didn't stick around to interpret the answers, finding a new person who'll understand it all may be daunting. I agree. We deserve a science update.
----------------------------------------The most recent SCC update mentioned lab testing of certain compounds. Do they work? Do they not? Are they still being worked or further developed? Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I seem to recall an update sometime mid-2024 (or early 2024) that there would be more SCC1 work coming. If that's a true memory, then they probably just put a hard stop to their WCG work when their business model changed.

Prior to this announcement, the most recent SCC update is from October 2023.
----------------------------------------It described some work being done in the lab and said there wouldn't be any new tasks while the team focused on the validation of the previous work. An update on that and other WCG-related work is what we need. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/article.s?articleId=803 AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |
