Good afternoon,
Well, I broke the system in preparation for this test...We are working on addressing this, but that means I have not sent out any of the work for GPU yet. Again, this is a stress test and I found a pain point. I apologize I couldn't start it exactly on time. We are working on fixing it, but hopefully it'll give more people the time to get their machines ready. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Do I have to download something to do this? I have the standard version of the BOINC software. I think I have it checked off to do GPU processing but I've never seen it actually use my GPU. Boinc will automatically try to use you gpu by asking for gpu tasks if you have enabled gpu computing in the settings and have a capable gpu that has the right packages installed. For nvidia you need cuda (or maybe opencl works too?), while for amd you need opencl 1.2. The installation of this is very platform dependent, if you are on gnu/linux i'll probably be able to set you up if you want. Is GPU usage it marked somehow in the Boinc manager?

Did the test already start. Boinc was running OK until 19.55 A'dam time. Since then I am having Upload and downloads issues.
Running BOINC 7.16.11 on windows 10. I'm sure those who knows how to trick BOINC into believing they have 100's of GPU's in their computers, and/or use a hacked BOINC version where the number of allowed tasks/computer is raised to ridicolous levels, will celebrate this decision for a GPU Stress Test. (Yes, it is possible to trick BOINC, and Yes, it exists hacked versions of BOINC that can do exactly that)
Let's see how easily they can fill their multi GPU computers with 10-20 thousand WU's, and once again game the system. |
