Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping to see what kind of production comes from this. Up until now, we've had theoretical numbers on what bottlenecks we would encounter. We are going to be capturing stats and monitoring lots of different metrics.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

So these units are ready and in 20 minutes you just open the gates ?

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Good afternoon,

Before we start the stress test. The researchers wanted to let you know what we are testing:

The batches for the stress test are targeting the spike protein, the most important surface protein of the virus, using a structure
that was determined using cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) by our collaborators at the Ward lab at Scripps Research.
Approximately 280 million small molecules from the ZINC database will be docked
against a promising, hypothetical binding site. Our goal is to identify a few of these molecules
that will bind with sufficient affinity to the spike to interfere with the replication
process of SARS-CoV-2.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Almost hate GPU tasks, it's almost impossible to use my computer when they are running. I hoped it will be fixed after Beta, but not; the best fact about such tasks is they are quick. News about a big amount of such tasks destroys this advantage...

And - yes, I know that I may turn off them at all. I will think about it.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

I'm ready! I had stopped processing OPNG due to a limited supply of tasks. That is there seemed to be enough people with faster machines than mine to take care of the supply. I'll tweak my settings to jump back in while the supply is boosted to help with the stress test.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

What ever the current limit is, it is not enough. My GPU sits idle 50% of the time.
When I do get jobs it is only 8 or so, and they are all crunched within the hour. The GPU is ready to process more.

Please reconsider either letting jobs out every 15 minutes and 2x or 4x the number of jobs. There are many of us ready to crunch GPU job. Lots of GPU jobs. Lets get that detail to the researchers! Based on how well this has been going, it seems to me the other projects should look at ways to also run on the GPUs! I think my GPU could handle two jobs at once and still have left over cycles.

I realize this is just a tad outside of the stress test. But based on current viability of GPU jobs, clearly more could be released now.

You probably already know this, but you can set the number of frames rendered by the card in the WCG settings.
For some reason the frame cap was active only when i used an NVIDIA gpu, but since i recently switched to an RX 560 i get the card working without limitations. Weird.
Also, open the gates, we are ready cool.
