More points from a limited supply of beta units than the other projects with plentiful supply going out to all users. A lot more results are going to start flooding the researchers servers. Hope they have cancelled all leave and moved camp beds in to the labs to keep the supply of units going.

Seeing the impact this can have on the points and amount of science it can get done. I think I am starting to understand why Uplinger said sleep can wait.

Hopefully this will inspire other and future projects to make GPU applications if feasible for that project.

Hopefully this will inspire other and future projects to make GPU applications if feasible for that project. And there is the sticking point. Much of the medical type research is not compatible with GPUs or would be a more work than it is worth for the researchers to undertake. This is only the 2nd of 30 projects run here that were GPU capable. Wouldn't we all love to see more.
In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

This one only really applies to projects that can use Autodock. Which ones are they? Probably a new virus might be able to use it, but I don't know about cancer, etc. I am sure they will be thinking about it though. |

Help Conquer Cancer was the only other GPU project that ran here so it can be done. That also started out as a CPU project first.

I also don't know if was used on the HCC GPU app but I do know I could run way more tasks concurrently on the HCC app than I can on the OPNG app. OPNG tasks are probably way more complex and need more resources to run but that's only a guess. Once the HCC app went to GPUs the project was finished in less than 6 months IIRC. It wouldn't surprise me at all if OPN finishes pretty quickly now. There are way more GPUs in number and compute capability now then there was back then.

As Uplinger said though, WUs are about to get much more complex in production, as these Betas were still very CPU-like. With the compute power of GPU available to researches, they might find that increasing resolution, adding complexity or making the dockings more fine-grained so to speak would be possible to do now. This would increase computation time on GPU so fewer results sent back in the same unit of time would result.
----------------------------------------Also I wonder, currently we are still processing dockings for the first SARS-CoV-2 virus target protein. How many are there, and will the targets of mutations (if those targets have mutated in the British, Brazilian, African etc variants) be added/processed as well (against all/promising ligands identified for the first target)? EDIT: Oh yeah, the points boost was very noticable :D
