Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 26 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Another question is: Will there be added another selection under "Project Limits", for the MAX number of OPNG tasks you will allow, like it is for all the other projects?

Having the same Max setting as for the CPU project named "OpenPandemics - COVID-19", would not be a good idea. Especially bad if you won't allow CPU tasks at all, or if you want different MAX numbers for OPN1 and OPNG.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 26 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Sorry about the hiccup in work. I had to run to the store to grab something and took longer than expected for making sure we had plenty of work loaded up. I would imagine at the current pace we will be out of new beta work in about an hour.

This test is putting some pressure on the system which is nice to see how it handles the validation/assimliation of the results that are coming back in quickly.

We are having some virtual high fives here in communications with the researchers. They have some additional checks they want to look at, but currently we are getting really good results and things look awesome.

With this latest beta batch, I have changed the assimilator to be production ready with how it packages results for the researchers.

So next steps in my mind are this:

1. Eat pizza for lunch (check, yes i really had some pizza, nanoprobe knows me too well)
2. Send additional results back to researchers for validation (tomorrow)
3. Await final thumbs up from researchers (Hopefully we'll have this by Friday)
4. Build batches and upload 7.28 to opng (Tomorrow)
5. Perform other final checklists (ongoing)
6. Have go/no go conversation with the researchers (TBD)

Thanks,
-Uplinger

You guys rock. Just 2 more questions Keith.
1. I'm assuming there will be enough work after beta to run a small cache?
2. Will the official name for app_config file use be OPNG or will it still be OPN1?

Thanks!

1. As with most releases of a new application we will be limiting the number of work units initially. I know this may not be popular, but we need to do this to make sure the pipeline works as expected, I'll elaborate more below.
2. The official name for this is going to be opng, the work units for GPU will only be taged with OPNG in their name.

The pipeline consists of many parts but this is the high level flow.
a. Researchers identify ligands and targets they wish to run
b. Researchers create batches for us in the form of 10,000 ligands against a given target (the target doesn't change much)
c. WCG download these batches
d. WCG builds and loads batches by combining ligands into the same work unit that gets fed to boinc
e. THE VOLUNTEERS DO THE HEAVY LIFTING :) :) :) :)
f. Results are returned to WCG for validation
g. WCG assimilates the results and creates a nice package for the researchers, this can only be done when all results in a batch are complete
h. WCG send result package back to researchers
i. Researchers do post analysis on the results.

In this pipeline there are many parts to consider... storage, bandwidth, cpu, and researchers time. We try to make sure that all of the stages are running as efficiently as possible as to not to cause a backlog at any stage.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Sometimes getting this message, but what does it mean?

There are only so many spots on the feeder that I have allotted towards this project. What this means is that all of those spots require a wingman to be sent out to specific class (Nvidia on windows), then all other classes will get this messages if your machine is not one of those groups.

Thanks,

At the moment there is not a plan to add anything that limits OPNG tasks differently than OPN entirely. I know this is a wanted feature, but I do not have an answer at the moment on plans for such a feature.

All have been loaded. I will be loading another 10 batches after UTC 00:00:00 so that I can verify that points are looking correct with averages of early stops.

Thanks,

From a quick look at the logs it looks like your GPU is not capable of running these tasks. The tasks exceed the time limit even before the first autudock is completed.

@nanoprobe
Thank you for checking the log file.
If true, that is strange, the same 2 computers ran previous versions of this beta just fine.
The computers have not had any changes to them.
Win 10 64bit, Intel 6500t w/ 530 iGPU. GPUz says the OpenCL version is 2.1

There have been others with your same issue on iGPUs. Maybe it's something to do with version 7.28 vs. 7.27 that was tested earlier. For some reason your tasks seem to be stalling and I have no idea how to help with that. Maybe when Uplinger looks at the logs he'll spot something.
