Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 26 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Well done. Did you see my post right above yours? cool

Thanks!
No, but I saw it now - we had the same thoughts in mind though it seems :)

I have one other PC with a GTX960 and an AMD R9 280 that play nicely together, but I must admit it does feel like an error-prone setup.

Probably because they are both OpenCl 1.2 compatible. Maybe putting both Nvidias in 1 machine and the AMD in another may be a better way to go if possible.

Did we already finish all 200 batches? Already haunted by another GPU WU dry spell...

no, just got 2 more nv (276)

Ah yeah, they're flowing again now. Have received some of batch nr. 283, so that means almost halfway through.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 26 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

A question:
At the end of the beta will be possible to get WU for GPU only?
I prefer to run on CPU other WCG projects CPU only.

You can set preferences, use profiles and use an app_config file in the WCG folder to run CPU or GPU tasks any way you'd like.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 26 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Sorry about the hiccup in work. I had to run to the store to grab something and took longer than expected for making sure we had plenty of work loaded up. I would imagine at the current pace we will be out of new beta work in about an hour.

This test is putting some pressure on the system which is nice to see how it handles the validation/assimliation of the results that are coming back in quickly.

We are having some virtual high fives here in communications with the researchers. They have some additional checks they want to look at, but currently we are getting really good results and things look awesome.

With this latest beta batch, I have changed the assimilator to be production ready with how it packages results for the researchers.

So next steps in my mind are this:

1. Eat pizza for lunch (check, yes i really had some pizza, nanoprobe knows me too well)
2. Send additional results back to researchers for validation (tomorrow)
3. Await final thumbs up from researchers (Hopefully we'll have this by Friday)
4. Build batches and upload 7.28 to opng (Tomorrow)
5. Perform other final checklists (ongoing)
6. Have go/no go conversation with the researchers (TBD)

Thanks,
-Uplinger

At the end of the beta will be possible to get WU for GPU only?

Currently available in website. Settings, Device Manager, click on a profile, "Allow research to run on my CPU?" can be turned off to stop receiving any more CPU tasks from this project (World Community Grid).

To continue receiving AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPU task, just make sure "Use my AMD/NVidia/Intel graphics card if possible" are on.

Edit: Slightly mis-read. You can turn off "OpenPandemics - COVID-19" and turn on "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project." so it will prioritize other projects for CPU. As there is no other GPU work it will still grab GPU tasks from OpenPandemics. Just make sure the project limits are high enough like 32 or higher, and Store up to 0.2 days a low enough number.

My idea was to run Africa Rainfall Project on CPU and OpenPandemics on GPU.
If I disable "Allow research to run on my CPU?" ARP stops too. :(
I'm asking if there is a way (a new preference or a string in app_config) to get GPU tasks only for OP, but keeping to get CPU tasks for ARP.

Ok, maybe it will be the solution. :)

You guys rock. Just 2 more questions Keith.
1. I'm assuming there will be enough work after beta to run a small cache?
2. Will the official name for app_config file use be OPNG or will it still be OPN1?
