Both of the ones that timed out had this in the detail:
Unhandled Exception Detected... - Unhandled Exception Record - Reason: Breakpoint Encountered (0x80000003) at address 0x00007FF831B39AD2 |

That's a deliberate design choice. If BOINC kills a task for "exceeded elapsed time limit", it does so by activating a breakpoint and thus triggering a full crash dump. There may be something in there which can help the programmers find why they ran so long, but it's a long shot (and not for the fainthearted).

Hi, I wondered why my i7 iMac was unresponsive... Turns out it's got 4 tasks to process on it's GPU for OpenCovid. I've had to pause GPU compute because otherwise I cannot do anything. Whatever/however this has been written needs tweaking big time. Perhaps raise the threshold on GPUs that can participate? My iMac has an ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1Gb RAM.

When I had GPU tasks on both my iGPU HD4600, as well as on my GTX980, I had to change the monitor to the GTX980 GPU. When it was on the iGPU, the mouse and keyboard became very unresponsive. (It's likely the same would happen if I only had GPU work on the iGPU, but I haven't had the chance to test that, since there are no more work for now)
----------------------------------------So compared to OpenCL on SETI@home, where I with no problems could run WU's on the iGPU (even two or three at the same time), and also have the monitor connected to it, without any lagging, this OpenCL app makes the inputs very unresponsive if I have the monitor on the iGPU. The CPU load for the iGPU tasks is very low, 5-7% only, and the iGPU load jumps like crazy every second from 0-100% and back. Apart from that, the tasks crunches just fine on the iGPU, not very fast, but faster than on the CPU ( i7-4790K). Also, the priority settings for the iGPU app, is not as the CPU app set at "Low", but at "Below normal". How it is set for the Nvidia app, I don't know, I didn't check it. It's not the computer itself that is laggy for me with the monitor connected to the iGPU, but the inputs from the mouse and keyboard. No problems at all though on the GTX980. So, I don't know, but I do think they have to rethink the app for Intel iGPU's. [Edit 9 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Feb 21, 2021 7:31:14 PM] |

It would be nice if it was possible to throttle the GPU, in the same way that you can set number of CPU cores to use and CPU time. for GPU, I believe that "GPU Time" would be good to be able to adjust.

Mine have timed out too .... but they get to 100% and sit there for a few more hours before the time-out kills them. The first two I cancelled after they sat at 100% for a couple of hours, the next two I let run until they cancelled themselves.

There are several utilities that allow you to reduce the power limit or set lower clocks on your GPU. AMD's radeon software and MSI afterburner comes to mind. |

Something I need to look into in the morning, since they stopped running GPU tasks my machines appear to have gone on strike for a while.
One in particular dropped from an average of 40 WUs a day to 6 and was only requesting GPU work for about 12 hours. They both appear to be running normally now but this needs to be investigated. |

You folks that are having issues using the GPU to run work units should have a look at World Community grids GPU page.

Is the list of GPU prohibited for the cancer research project the same for this one?
