Adri,
Thanks for the solution (confirmation of success is always nice...) and some interesting stuff about skates and a selection of Dutch words... I like to try to pronounce "foreign" words the way they should be said (which makes Welsh and Scots/Irish Gaelic place-names really challenging...), even if I don't know what they mean, so insights are always welcome :-) Unfortunately, my days of trying to learn new [non-computer] languages are long past :-( Cheers - Al. |

This weekend's puzzle was one of the first puzzles I put together. It wasn't time for it, until I started to run out of material.

Adri,
Thanks for the solution (and confirmation I had indeed read 17 across correctly - neat!...) A shame we haven't [yet] heard from Sgt. Joe this time round :-( I note your "running out of material" comment; I had a go at building one of those 'doorloper' puzzles with a "spin" -- it's harder than it looks :-) [How much of that was because I tried adding an extra rule to "increase the difficulty" is under advisement...] Again, thanks for the puzzle (and I might go back to a setting effort when I can find some time away from other [WGC-related] projects...) Cheers - Al. |

I did it, but even with the answers I still don't get 17 across. The rest all fit, that looked out of place.

Sgt.Joe, sorry to hear about your unsuccessful efforts, so could you please pronounce for me, slowly: N E 1? And then quickly: N E 1.
----------------------------------------Al, should you have a puzzle available, I would gladly let you post it. To avoid posting two weekend puzzles, let me know in time, or just be quicker than I was on that (future) Saturday. Or maybe even someone else could be chiming in with a weekend puzzle sometime in the near future. As for next Saturday, I hope somebody will be interested in another Letter Sudoku, this time with a twist. (Buying you some extra time re your effort.) :-) On a side note, off topic here, I've created - as you must have seen undoubtedly - two new threads dedicated to Incredibly Quick Deadlines. This weekend's puzzle is called Letter Sudoku X. If you aren't able to solve the puzzle there's always the challenge to find the magic word (using all 9 letters), which isn't that easy, since only 8 letters are provided and one other letter appears to be missing!
In this Letter Sudoku X, the objective is to fill the 9 × 9 grid with letters so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3 × 3 subgrids that compose the grid contain all the letters from the diagram. Not only that, in the diagram you'll notice an X, one drawn from the top left to the bottom right corner and the other one drawn from the bottom left to the top right corner, each comprising 9 squares. Each of these two diagonals should also contain the 9 individual letters from the diagram. There is only one solution for this partially completed grid. Letter Sudoku X Good luck! Adri |
