Jhindo, The agreement says: "Scientists can receive free, 24/7 access to up to 150,000 years of computing power though World Community Grid, an award-winning IBM Citizenship initiative that enables anyone with a computer or Android device to support scientific research by carrying out computational research tasks on their devices." What happens if they go over? We don't typically set an upper limit for the amount of computing power a project can receive from World Community Grid - we support a research effort for as long as the computing resources are needed to advance it. It is worth nothing that of the 25+ projects that we've supported to date, only a couple have needed more than 150k years of computing time, so we're confident that this will be sufficient to meet the needs of the vast majority of projects. I don't see us stopping the project if it goes over 150k years, but would need to discuss the additional needs with the IBM groups we're collaborating with for this initiative. |

Felix, too soon to tell, as I mentioned in an earlier post , it largely depends on whether the research application chosen by the scientists is already GPU enabled.

Sounds like a good plan to support climate and environmental research. I'll certainly make my computers available.

Harvey and Irma and the wildfires are all the research I need.

PabloMalaga, it's too soon to tell.
Once we review applications and determine up to 5 grant winners, we begin the process of integrating each researcher team's modeling tool into the World Community Grid platform. This includes reviewing the code for security vulnerabilities, adding checkpointing capabilities, implementing data input/output mechanisms, porting to different operating systems, etc. We also work with the researchers to compile accurate information about the research effort and bring in various communication teams to plan for public outreach at launch. This process often takes several months and sometimes, the researcher may need to make modifications to their model before we can even begin. We don't anticipate any of the projects which applied for this grant would launch before 2018. Many thanks, Juan |

2018 is too late. I'm so 2008, you are 2000 and late.
